I just got this and this and this and this and plus two extra poles so that it will look like pic below. The quick release and the extra mounts will enable me to switch it from one side of the 4Runner to the other quickly and also take it off easily when at home and store in the garage. Hope it works but it is backordered until June so I'll put up a review when I get it. Never heard about Ironman until someone mentioned it on the board. They are out of Oregon in the U.S. (Australian company) so I didn't have to pay sales tax nor shipping. $545 total for everything. I didn't really want a rooftop tent so I thought this would be the next best thing. I'm hoping my cot will fit in the awning cover. It's 2.5 meters out but a small portion of that is the body of the 4Runner. Maybe it will fit corner to corner. The awning also came with a light strip. I have the stock rails and LFD Off-road aluminum cross bars.

any pics of how you mounted to stock rails? i recently bought the ironman awning, but not sure how i would mount to stock rails. i also have a rola roof rack...

Spent a little time measuring up the profiles of the roof rails and came up with this design for an awning bracket. Then had my local sheet metal shop laser cut, bend and weld. They offered to powder coat, but I needed them for my trip to Moab this past June, so I primed and painted them. Used rubber sheet to protect the rail finish. 3 weeks of overlanding in Utah and Colorado and a summer of overlanding weekends back home and they held up fine. If I did it again, I'd get them powder coated, paint scratched where the nuts came into contact.

Probably not related on this thread but I wondered if a foxwing / batwing awning could be mounted to the factory rails?

Also, does anyone know if a foxwing / batwing awning is deployed, would there be sufficient clearance above the rear cargo door once that is opened?

Sorry to bring this thread back but, did you ever get the batwing and install it on your factory side rails?

I am looking at the Rhino Rack Batwing Compact and want to make sure there were no issues mounting.

INSTALLED - YEAH SHADED

Mounted to stock rails using supplied equipment from the awning manufacturer. Not super clean but not bad, and took some finagling (bolts barely were long enough) but was able to synch it good n tight.

I am pleased with the unit at first operation. Seems good quality and able to meet my needs. I’ll test this weekend.

No doubt these things are so cool.

Sorry to bring this thread back but, did you ever get the batwing and install it on your factory side rails?

I am looking at the Rhino Rack Batwing Compact and want to make sure there were no issues mounting.
