Back window / rear of 4Runner is always dirty.

I guess it is just the shape of the vehicle, but driving in metro Atlanta, the rear window and back end seems to get filthy virtually every day. My car is white, which makes it show up worse. Does everyone have this problem? Would a spoiler help?

I have the OEM spoiler and the back still gets filthy. The spoiler is purely cosmetic.

Ive noticed the spoiler does help keep the window clean, but only at highway speeds. If you are just driving around town, it really doesnt do much.

After experience both with and without the spoiler, I'd have to disagree. The spoiler makes a huge difference. Yes, I still get alot of grime on the rear end, but it's not as bad as my nephew's t4r without the spoiler. We've compared this several times when traveling together and there's an obvious advantage to the spoiler.

i have a white 3rd gen with a brand new rear tailgate and no spoiler. I also have the same exact problem, with in one day, a thin black layer of grime and dirt tend to build up.

I came to the conclusion that it is the exhaust because i leave my back window down alot it sucks the air (and exhaust) back around to hit my tailgate, and whatever other debris on the road.

But im pretty sure whats on your tailgate and windows is coming from your exhaust. Plus ive noticed the harder i drive my 4runner the worse the grime gets. Ill snap a picture here in a day or two and see if its the same stuff.

It's going to get dirty with all the red clay around here. Especially out in Roswell. I live in Buckhead & it is not as bad, but any time I go OTP, my truck seems to be a magnet for dirt.

Just wait until pollen season comes around in a few weeks. your white truck will turn yellowish green!

I agree with 20runner. I've owned many vehicles with and without spoiler. Some of them have decor spoilers, some functional. 4Runner, from my point of view has functional, especially 2005 version. It helps airflow. But yes, it's more effective on highway speeds then in city driving, because it gives airflow to the rear window from the roof. In my previous Montero adding rear spoiler I gain ~2mph in top speed (was measured by GPS). So on SUV like 4Runner it's functional. Just my 2c.

yea that will work a little, with mine, a dry duster will only move the dust around, i normally have to use a wet/damp rag to actually pick up the grime.

You could also move to at town with less smog.

The kind of crap you all are talking about accumulating on the back of your 4Runner is kind of gross.

I don't have any of that, unless it rains or snows.

haha well the light meter at the inspection station read .2%!

i dont have the tint on my front anymore just all of my rear windows. I personally love it. From the outside, its basically blacked out, even during the day with my sunroof open you cant see through the rear at all. The beauty of it is i dont have any issue seeing out during the day and only a little at night.

That limo tint is sick. I love it. Wish I could do that legally in Mass. Mandatory annual auto inspections prohibit it (or it's just alot of risk to get it and find someplace that will pass it).

Yeah, if it's aftermarket tint and if it's darker than a certain %.
