Its time to quit being a Stalker to everyone else sweet builds and start mine.

Background-

My dad bought this truck with 5 miles on it at a dealership in Idaho, for my mother. She is now sitting at 141,XXX miles. So over the years we have had it, we have put a few miles on it. She is a 1997 SR5 Manual Stellar Blue and affectionately named Stella
Currently Has:

• Big O A/T Big Foot 265/75R16 Tires
• Alpine IXA-W404 Deck
• 2 10" Jensen subs w/ 900Watt Jensen amp
• GT Seat Covers(Ton of Pockets)
• 5% Tinted Windows
• LEDs- Interior Light Swap
• ToyTec Boss front shocks with OME springs and Bilstein 5125 shocks in the rear
• Satoshi Grill Mod

Nice heirloom 4Runner. I bought a new natural white 1997 in fall '96 thinking I would hand it down to my impending son. A 2002 4Runner took it out one icy morning in 2003 and my black 2000 is the replacement. Sigh.

I think you ought to take the wheel well trim off rather than painting it. It's easy to remove and it is nothing but a rust trap. You will be amazed at how much dirt is trapped behind it! If you must keep it, remove it, scuff it and use Rustoleum satin black. I used some three years ago on my tow hitch and it still looks new.

Why is it called the Barney mobile? Is it purple? It looks green in the photo. I don't remember that being a color choice at all.

-Thank you! I didn't want her at first because I couldn't get the clutch work down but now I love her since I have it down. Oh shoot yeah that's never good, but even better that you got the 02 year and black!

-Well if I remember from reading everyone else fender removal it leaves hole if you take it off? I really want the Limited Flares but those seem almost impossible to find.

-Its Toyota name for the color is Stellar Blue and it looks pretty purple in most lighting...thus the name. but I know there is a chart floating around here with the breakdown of what colors were sold with what models and I actually believe the stellar blue was sold on almost all 3rd gen models. The current picture that I just added might help with the showing the color better. :noidea:

I'm pretty sure the holes in the fender are just from the limited flares as they use bolts and tabs. Your chrome trim should be just bolts under the fender and no tabs through the actual fender. Just unbolt and remove (I think but not 100% sure.)

The LEDs from Super Bright are in! I literally just got home but im going to try and install what I can to see how they work! ill be using sn0wrunners write up to do it so thank you in advance!

This is correct. I have that trim and took mine off when I painted my wheels graphite. I still have to do the bumper. The trim has metal clips that extend under the fender and those are what bolts in, out of sight. The tabs were rusted and left stains but eventually it looks good.

okay so I got everything changed out but i cant seem to get my RR window button to light up but im hoping its just like the #74 and it has + and a -... another one is the cig lighter ring... the 74 sticks out a ton but also the metal tabs(spacing the actual name) wont line up to the plugs

Wheeling

Finally went wheeling and got her a little dirty, I went with the guys from work and it was a blast! Definitely will need to lift because I scrapped a little on the end of my tow hitch. We went to Bunce school road and drove to camp dick(so not to rough and the proof is in the last car in our group) But it was a good first wheeling trip for me! When we came back through it a second time right before dark we ran into a guy from tacoma world at the end of the trail, he actually had a ton of Addicited Offroad Armour and he told me that the new plate bumper was designed off of his truck(small world!) but I believe it sold me on getting the Addicted Bumper when that cash flow adds up!

Runner looks great! I'd say look for the sport flares over the limited ones. The limited flares are cut to accommodate for the added lower cladding and the bottom of the flare is much flatter where the sport flare has a nicer (in my opinion) taper to it.

So I'm Broke

I went to Toytec today (that explains not having money)

I ended up with the Boss Lift kit and cutting my bank account in half..Two for one! (ahh the joys of the college summer job)
The guys in the shop were real nice and helpful with the 20 questions I played with him, and was shown the beer tap in the FJ...Which WOW awesome.(totally offered my 4Runner for a trade, he didn't bite:hurt: ) and the new tundra they have, what a beautiful machine.

She has new legs

Finally finished up the lift.
The only issue we had was with the rear shocks not wanting to come out and we also thought the brake line wasn't going to be long enough(it turns out it was, so I didn't even need the brake line extension I purchased). The front went on without an issue, we used the bottle jack idea which worked perfectly!

Alright so i did the satoshi grill recently(ish).
It wasnt as bad as i thought but after finishing it i dont like it as much as i thought. The only reason is because my lettering is straight cut. It should be an easy fix or just find someone that could 3D print the letter or something.
But here it is.

Also anyone know how to change the name of my thread? I dislike it already.

Clutch Is Blown

It turned an hr and half drive into a 4 hr trip. I know it coulda been worse, luckily I was close to an exit, and Toyota dealership so that's where she sits currently!

I noticed the lack of throttle response awhile ago and i brought it up to some people and they couldn't figure why it was doing it...so I guess I finally figured out what the hell was causing it. Just sucks it went out in the middle of cruising I-25.

Any suggestions on what clutches to go with? I've read just go with stock again. I could see why its a popular choice because it took 142,xxx miles till it went. But I'm hopefully on my last leg of college and can get a new DD so that she can become a occasional driver. So all suggestions help!

(Sorry if this is a terrible post to follow but it is late, I had to rant, and today sucks)

I've had my car back for about a week now...and well to avoid homework I started looking up to see if I got a good deal from the dealership(HA yea right)

The total was $1712.99 for the whole clutch replacement
$951.93 for parts
$684.00 for labor (God damn not being at a dealership where I don't know anyone)

Is the parts way overpriced or am I just overthinking it? (now that I am super broke...I wish I knew how to do all maintenance on my 4Runner)

That seems like a lot of money for a clutch replacement. For being a college student you still have a lot of money lol. IMO, that was too expensive.

This boys and girls is why we do our own work. They screwed you over. If you would have one it yourself it would have been probably less than half that and if you bought the parts and took it to someone other than the stealership it still would have been significantly less.
