Bass-ackward foglights

My factory foglights have never worked since I aquired the truck a few months ago and fixing it has been on my to-do list... albeit the bottom of the list. So I was a bit surprised today when I was stopped at a traffic light behind a pickup with a painted tailgate that was shiny enough to clearly show my one fog light burning brightly... I totally WTF'ed when I realized that I actually had a working fog light AND that the factory foglight switch was in the off position! I quickly threw the switch and it lit up Amber — and of course my one foglight promptly went out.

No amount of messing with the switch made the foglight turn back on.

So while I hadn't planned to mess with the foglights until other things on my to-do list were checked off, I'm wondering if perhaps there is a simple explanation for the light turning on when the switch is off, and then turning off when the switch is on.

I'm now assuming my other light is simply burnt out since it wasn't on.

Are you positive they're factory?

Sounds like maybe someone added them and did a horrible wiring job.

I'm not positive but they do look factory-ish to me as does the lighted switch. The switch lights up regardless if the foglights actually turn on too.

Hmm Before u go digging I would pop that switch out swap the wires in the connector reassemble and u may be in business once u replace a bulb maybe worth a shot.

I'm 90 percent sure that those aren't stock. Probably botched/corroded wiring...I'd maybe start at the light and follow the wiring back, see where it goes and what condition it's in

Those fog light were dealer add on for 97-98 year models. Some dealers added them on during the PDI process and believe the manufacturer on some depending on locations was sylvania. Toyota supplied them in there after market parts options

I'd pop the switch and swap the wires around to rule that out.

I'm not convinced they're factory. May be, but they still look a bit unusual. Maybe it's just me.

Also, they could possibly be a OEM product, but were added by someone later on down the road.

Fog lights have advanced sense then I would just replace them with a nice set of Rigid and be done with it once u get your switch figured out.

I did see that yesterday and have been shopping rigid page sense seeing your post. Mine came with factory fog light and I hate them and want to upgrade but haven't decided how I am going to use the little 2 inch holes in my bumper yet. I thought about cutting it out and making some room or find a nice round set of aftermarkets but no luck yet. I have however determine how to mount a nice light bar without drilling into the body of my rig which is what I am considering here soon,found some industrial suction cups that have a really high weigh value that should do very nicely.

Ah I see.

Maybe figure out a way to install some Duallys in there? I don't know.

There are round LEDs on Amazon that look legit. Check out OPT7. They're the seller.

Hella Micro DEs fit those holes perfectly though you do want to add a bit of extra waterproofing to the to prevent corrosion.

AHHH now them look pretty legit, I haven't really dug in deep on looking for the Hella full assembly fog lamp,I am running there bulbs in the factory setup now but I have busted lense like u had. Really my fog lamps look like h@## after all the years. I think u have provided me a path to take now thanks for the thread. Have u solved your fuse issue.

Technically, no. But I'm certain buttoning up the housing the way I did was the problem. Also, I was using non-watertight plugs which I'm sure also contributed. Waiting for waterproof plugs to be delivered from China now, then putting them back in. There have been issues with others not having the right mounting points under the valence, but I was lucky in the regard.
