Beginner working on a new TRD Pro (Compressor/SPOD/Dual Battery)

I am trying to find the optimal placement under the hood for the following items:
1. Onboard compressor : ARB single, ARB twin compressor or VIAIR400. The compressor will be initially used for tire pressure but also for the missing diff locker on the TRD in a close future.
2. SPOD or switch-pro to allow for the connection of the compressor as well as various lighting system.
3. possibility to upgrade in the future to a dual battery system.

I am not set yet on the type of compressor or the spod/switch-pro/* option (cleanness of the installation and one cable thru the firewall).

Looking at ARB, one can find mounts for the passenger side (i.e. where the second battery would be) or mounts on the driver side where the SPOD would be.

I would appreciate your input for the placement of those various items (including mounts) as well as the pros/cons of those equipments.

Thanks
Eric

Powertrays has something you'd be looking for. They also have a lot of different configurations as well.

Then go with either the off-grid engineering or shockworks dual battery trays

Are you wanting a front locker? If you don’t have a rear locker, you haven’t got a TRD Pro.

For compressor mount I can suggest the Slee mount. Also, ARB compressor is a nicer unit than a Viair. Had both and definitely like the ARB better.

Dkrunner: I meant to add a front diff locker via the arb compressor.
Thanks for your feedback on the viair vs the Arb. Do you have the single or double compressor. The problem with his the slee mount is that it would take the place of the second battery.

Sn_85: indeed the power tray seems a perfectly good solution for the single arb compressor. That’s said, I wonder if the vibration of the compressor woulda not have an impact on the switch pro positioned on the same plate. I am toggling more and rentre toward the twin arb compressor and that plate would not work .... again this is not definite. Thanks for mentioning this attractive option.

We second that opinion on the unit from Powertrays. We just got ours and couldn't be happier. They cut openings for mounting a custom Bussmann fuse/relay box that we'll be assembling and mounting in a week or so.

Detailed video to follow.

From our past experience; yes the compressor will shake the heck out of your switch panel. Best to keep them totally separate.

Any other placement options out there?
Especially considering the option for a dual battery system.

Well, basically you have three systems with only two good spaces. Maybe there's enough room under the elect. panel to mount the compressor? Would there be a spot under the stock battery location, close to the frame? Unlike the other two, the compressor can be mounted in an out-of-the-way location. I think you'll need to let your creative side shine on this one. :)

When you do figure it out I'd like to see the results! If you could post a pic or two that would be great.

I just ordered the kit from Shrockworks which will put the aux battery infront of the passenger headlight and it will relocate the secondary air injection pump to the passenger side rear of the engine compartment. I will be using the National Luna dual battery kit and the SPOD will get installed on top of the aux battery via....not sure how yet but will probably make something myself to mount it.

I also plan on installing the ARB air compressor in the passenger rear of the engine compartment as well.

4x4 Labs makes a tray for compressors. Check it out.

The Shrockworks dual battery kit sets the standard. I installed this kit last weekend on a friend's 4Runner and can say that it is very well thought through and constructed with a high standard. I would highly recommend it if you're going dual batteries as it puts the second battery on an already reinforced section of the passenger fender. Good luck!

Location is apparently a pain in 13' and later because of the Air Pump relocation. My truck is a 12' so I can't offer any solutions for that.
But here are a couple of products that I "went cheap" on and they have worked fine for me.
I only have a stand alone single ARB comp. w rear locker so it's location was perfect behind the CAI. I did a quick bracket write up for a 4th gen using the same materials as I did on my 5th gen. Might give you some ideas for your set up. Mine is way simple having just a CKMA w no air tank. It's also not mounted as high as some folks would like, but it could be raised several inches with the right hardware. The twin ARB with a tank presents a lot more challenges, so the prefabbed aftermarket brackets in that application would probably be the way to go for the majority of people. If you enjoy the puzzle it can be done cheaply. I spent a lot upgrading Electrical components so that was my motivation as well.

This is what I did with my secondary House Battery.
Attwood marine Battery Tray:

I didn't use the hold down included with the Attwood.
I modified this hold down to work in the factory hook slots already in the fender well.

I had to bend the front hook a little as the slot is under the tray about a 3/4". (yellow arrow)

I also modified the factory bracket for the power steering res and fastened it under the battery tray.

I threw some cheap non skid from harbor freight under the battery

OP, I think with all of the info gathered, you have already found a potential solution.

-Powertray for your sPOD (Driver side, up by the firewall)

-4x4 Labs tray for your compressor (Passenger side, up by the firewall)

-Shrockworks dual battery setup (Passenger side, down by the front grille)

Sounds like a pretty slick setup to me!

I run the single ARB. Great performance for a person who doesn’t want to run air tools. Shrockworks dual battery kit will solve the location problem.

Thanks guys,
As mentioned early, I now have my solution: the second battery will be install with the kit from shrockworks, I will most likely install an arb twin compressor on the passenger side and either get a switch-pro or an spod for the electronics. Thanks again for all your inputs.

What mount will you be using? Is there one that mounts in the rear passenger location that wont interfere with the pump relocation?

What is that black box behind your air filter housing?

I believe that is the optional washer reservoir that comes with the shrockworks air pump and washer reservoir kit the 2014+’s need if your going to use the front passenger location for a second battery.
