Best NAV/Ipod/Bluetooth Upgrade for 04 w/JBL?

Just now buying my first 4runner. Coming out of a more than loaded 07 Tundra Limited. Getting into an 2004 4runner Sport with the JBL sound system. Would like to have some of the features of my Limited back. What is the best replacement head unit for my JBL that would give me NAV, Ipod and Bluetooth (and ideally another input for satellite radio). Have the left steering wheel controls for the JBL but if its easy would like to add the right side blue tooth buttons as well. Want my backup camera back if possible. DVD would be a bonus but not necessary. Read through some of the posts but figured if someone with my situation could hit me back so I can skip the trial and error portion of this process it would be appreciated.

I put a Kenwood Nav in my '04 and couldn't be happier with it. It has Garmin navigation and the ability to do everything you want. Take the time to put in a backup camera because otherwise you notice the slow boot time (although a common complaint, it's really not bad). I just used a $25 Chinese one from eBay and it works perfectly.

I did a whole thread on my DNX6960 install with parts lists. You might want to take a look. I didn't put in the backup camera at that time so there's nothing on that. I think there may be an updated version of the radio out now but I didn't see it on the Kenwood site.

If you search for Pioneer Nav a lot of people seem happy with those units and they are cheaper. I was willing to pay extra for the Garmin integration.
 
the kenwood that is stated above a an amazing unit. i almost went with it, but i ended up going with the JVC KW-NT50HDT. it was a little less and seemed to work better with my iPhone. at the end of the day though it boils down to how much you want to spend, what options you feel you can't do without and ultimately what brand you like the best. for me it was a toss up between the kenwood and the JVC, and the JVC was a little less $$$. i know a lot of guys on here have gone the pioneer route...its all up to you. good luck and hopefully we have been able to help you out.
 
I spent several weeks researching mine before getting the Pioneer AVIC Z130bt. I looked at pretty much everything out there and for the money and the features the AVIC had everything I wanted all in one unit without having to add anything else. It even had HD and traffic. I got it for $810. You will also need a TATO if you want to use your JBL amp and speakers and you will need a module to use your steering wheel controls. The right side controls were not added until 05, but in a rare stroke of luck, it looks like Toyota had planned for them so you can get the right hand controls and the cable for about $100. It plugs into the left hand side then you need to get a module to connect to your stereo. I used the PAC SWI-PS. It works perfectly. The only thing I really didn't like was the TATO.

Thanks for all the help. Think Im gonna go with the Pioneer. Where did you pick up the right side steering wheel switches, Sungod? And do you have any majors differences in the install from the Kenwood of Asmara? Did you do the PAC bypass and if so which one? Any mounting hardware or harness you recommend?

Here are the part numbers thanks to Silverbullet07:
1- Left Audio switch: 84247-35010-B0
1- Right Phone switch: 84244-35030-B0
1- Wire connecting two switches: 84204-58010
2- Mount bolt - W/cruise control - 9015950199
Airbag: 45130-35431-B0

If you have the left hand side controls you only need the right switch and the wire. I found the best price with shipping for them at Concelli Toyota. For the switch and the connecting cable it was about $100.

I used the PAC TATO and the SWI PS. Between the two of those you won't need another harness. I used the Best Kit dash kit. From my research there really isn't a dash kit that doesn't suck and the Best Kit is the best of the worst. I had to modify it and it still isn't perfect. This spring I will be getting another one and taking it to the router table to make it perfect.

The TATO leaves a lot to be desired. If you have the time, you should ditch the JBL amp all together, but that will require some creative wiring. I plan on eliminating the JBL amp in the spring when I can spend a couple of days tearing it all apart.

The other issue is that the antenna reception will suffer. I plan to install a new antenna in the rear window this spring as well.

I have the left side controls just not the phone. You have a part number for a couple mounting bolts and an airbag? Do I need these as well?

If you have the left hand controls you need only the cable and right side controls. The air bag is only needed if you don't have the left controls because for whatever reason it is different. You can reuse your mounting bolts when you remove the blank. This is what you would need:

1- Right Phone switch: 84244-35030-B0
1- Wire connecting two switches: 84204-58010

The "B0" refers to the color which is the black color. I don't know if they offered the controls in any other so if yours is not black you would need to determine the color code by seeing what color is listed for the left by a VIN look up.
