Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

I got sent this the other day from a friend. Looks like the new GX leaked ahead of time. I'm not usually a sucker for the 1000 renderings that always land, but this looks like it.

Looks fake to me. The rear quarter details look completely out of wack compared to the official teaser image on the previous page.

What I noticed in the new Tacoma and Tundra is that in the hybrid engine models they hide the battery under the rear seats, taking up the storage space that was there on the non-hybrid models.

That means there's a good chance in the 4runner hybrid models the rear seats won't fold flat? Just like the Sequoia where they had to do some weird multi-level trunk space to compromise for the battery.

That looks like a bummer as they seemingly don't have a solution yet as a hybrid 4runner is the most appealing type to me.

That is my main worry with the future hybrid 4Runner. If Toyota can't figure out a way to more smartly package the battery in an SUV setup, I'd be willing to step down to turbo-4 non-hybrid (assuming the 4Runner doesn't copy the hybrid only approach).

Seriously, what idiot at Toyota thought that this is acceptable? The fact that you can't even remove the 3rd row at all is laughable.

Yea, you guys may be right. The whole truck looks boxier in the other teaser pic, including the mirrors. Seems like just a decent photoshop of a current GX460 with the new headlights and some tweaks.

You know; I hadn't even thought about this, but it could be a deal killer for me also considering I find the back of the Seqouia to be an absolute packaging mess. If that carries over to the 4Runner and GX; ugh. Splurging on a Defender is looking more and more like a realistic option.

If that is what it looks like, then how the hell is this supposed to be a competitor with the Defender?
This just looks like an iteration on the current GX. Nothing revolutionary and certainly nothing that says "luxury offroader."

If this is anything remotely nearly what it looks like, then all the rumors we've heard were bs.

We will found out in a few weeks. Our resident expert Carmaker1 has said that the GX is speculated to be available in two flavors

"2024 GX 550 is V35A-FTS non-hybrid in a different tune against LX 600 at 409 hp; 479 lb-ft. Already trademarked since September 2021 at USPTO."

"GX 550h = 2.4T I4 T24A-FTS, aka known as i-Force Max I4 at Toyota (brand) on 2024 Tacoma. It's already trademarked in Asia."

Assuming this becomes true, customers will have the option to have a non-hybrid car with non-compromised cargo space.

I would say that is definitely not the new GX. That's current GX photoshopped to match the first teaser pic. Nothing matches the new pics from today. Rectangular mirror. Low belt line with a wide hip step out below and wide body fenders. New GX also shows a step up in belt line for the rear quarter windows and a vertical D pillar.

Amen, I could kill BS artists like Kolesa. They do quality work, but the creativity and detailing is lazy.

This looks like a refresh of the 2025 LX instead and they clearly WEREN'T paying attention to the GX teaser released and more importantly, key details many of us have been giving.

The extremely flat rear end, the unique fender flares that go in-out like G Wagen and Defender. The militarized, BOXY profile! Kolesa were just too impatient!

I argued with someone about this on a Lexus forum, where I am hated and in another spot, with numbskulls.

Just looking at the official images, I wrote it off quickly. Stupid clickbait entities like Motor1 (who I once respected), pushed this stupid rendering as credible. The author there, Angel Sergeev, didn't even vet the credibility of the image.

Not to mention a few other websites. Folks got to be careful, because on the flip side a lot of people ignorantly dismissed the credible leaked images of the real Tacoma as FAKE BRO, yet some are being too quick to trust some Russian clickbait farm who didn't put effort into it.

It's all about the clicks to them, watch out. Just compare anything like this going forward to any existing evidence.

I earnestly just want everyone on the same page as me or anyone else who has info to share. I make mistakes, but I certainly saw right through Kolesa's weak rendering, in not seeing a G Wagen competitor of any sort.

I think Texas Fun Runner knows some things too about these vehicles and a few of you as well.

GX does have the hybrid T24A work order, according to our source involved with technical aspects of the 4Runner. I don't trust him on certain info, but technical stuff he knows damn well.

GX 550 is said to be V6 by almost everyone that has seen the vehicle and given some details. He claims none of his work orders relate to the V35A-FTS, but it doesn't mean it won't be offered.

His commodity probably only deals with the GX 550h only.

Voice to text isn't working right now, so I'll keep it short.

2025 4Runner is definitely close to CB rendering. Not gonna say how, but I'll address it in a roundabout way.

Angular lines are what you need.

The C-Pillar is now more upright to allow ease of entry for rear passenger. D-Pillar is unfortunately similar the Sequoia. I am sorry about that. Not getting answers on the rear lift gate window. It doesn't look good.

No manual transmission, sorry. He said it's absolutely automatic only.

Hasn't seen any examples with the Tacoma TRD PRO seats.

The diffs on 4Runner are different on hybrid and non-hybrids.

Headlight design is virtually identical to the Tacoma, but differs in curvature a bit.

Another great, very firsthand source, can see these posts of mine and I don't want to alienate them by violating confidence. They help me understand some things that I wouldn't, only depending on that other person outside of Toyota and thank them greatly for new insight they have provided.

You'll be very happy to see something like the new GX in Toyota showrooms too, true to its heritage and at a much lower price than in 2021. Don't worry about today's J150, you're getting something much cooler than that and some standard fare versions of the successor being sold internationally.

If you think the new Tacoma is cool, this is even better. Tacoma probably formed the foundation for some new tech, to share costs.

Bear in mind that I have financial interests with others, but I am objective and happy enough to discuss this as an enthusiast and see there is room for everyone to be in this segment and to make Jeep run scared a little bit more.

I wanted to respond to a lot of posts with answers, but I cannot keep up at all. It would be too unreadable.

Thanks as always.

Thanks, you have me excited. Any idea when it will be revealed and then when will it hit showrooms? You probably would be guessing at the price.

New GX teaser. I love the belt line and protruding fenders.

Not sure if the tailgate is a clamshell design like in the old LC200, but the wiper placement suggests that the rear window can be open independently.

Looking good so far!

I think the design is rather ugly, IMHO.

Lexus is doing the launch for both the GX and TX on the same day 6/8. Toy/Lex are certainly being aggressive this year.

Certainly.

I actually sent you a very in-depth PM regarding all of this on March 21-22, which never had a response. Are you able to still see it?

Yea Motor1 I said the Mirai was basically the cancelled next gen Lexus GS and that wasn't very popular.

I was the inside source on that February 2020 story, which broke the Land Cruiser news, 2024 Tacoma redesign, and how GS became Mirai. They took me out of context on other things and misled people on some stuff. Sour grapes over their shoddy coverage and complaints, they shadow banned me in 2021, for my constructive criticism against the lazy reporting (like they still do today). Ignorant clickbait, that they're too incorrigible to learn from and become more reputable. Third world grade website with lots of glitz to mask it...

Well, we've known these vehicles were coming for 2 years. It was just a matter of them finally debuting when viable for the company to present them. A lot things were bunched up together, due to delays and timetables set long ago now clashing. This is why the 4Runner became a 2025 model, to make space for other Tahara launches.

Toyota had the AZ20 NX, J300 TLC, J310 LX, XK70 Tundra, XK80 Sequoia, and ALA10 RX debut over an 11 month period starting in June 2021.

This is just the next phase of TNGA debuts, some of them carryover TNGA (Prius, Camry, RAV4), yet ambitious regardless. Despite the loss of V6, one of those will be really pumped up with better traction.

I'm trying to read between the lines and I assume you're talking about the USDM Land Cruiser that will be based on the GX/Prado. When you say much lower price than in 2021, I'm assuming cheaper than the J200 Land Cruiser ($85,665 MSRP).

I'm curious when you say standard version of the successor being sold internationally. I'm assuming this is future tense as successor implies the next-generation Prado which hasn't been unveiled yet.

Either way I am excited that you think this vehicle will be even better. I have been saving up for the 4Runner for several years now and at this point I would be happy to pay the premium for the Land Cruiser. Especially since the 4Runner seems to be launching well after the Land Cruiser is meant to.

On a side topic, I recently had a chance to check out the Rivian R1S. Because its ground up electric design, the packaging Rivian was able to do is incredible. Huge frunk space, ample 2nd row seating and 3rd row seating suitable for those around 5'8 or under. Really well thought out fold down seats (although not removable) and the split tailgate came really clutch when the rain started to pour.

Wow, was this comment just edited in the last 5-10 minutes (draft opened over one hour ago, delayed by interruptive phone calls)? I didn't see the Rivian mention.

Toyota HQ has definitely been studying Rivian, based on my last visit there, where they had two employees shuffling in and out of one of them.

I got in trouble for asking one of the staff there about it and encouraged to leave, if I was just there to spy and poke around.

If it works for your needs...

Too bad Ford barely has shares in Rivian, as it would benefit me previously.

I have too many vehicles and on the BEV front, have only used the Lightning and Mustang Mach E as company vehicles. Curious about how Toyota is ready to rollout a Hilux BEV and not a Tacoma. Guess we'll see.

I'll tell you, I'm already struggling with condensing mention of this new Land Cruiser into short form, because it can get easily mixed up with the 300 or international Prado.

Calling it USDM (US Domestic Market) is easier, but I've realized would garner several corrections made towards me, since it's unfortunately not a domestically built vehicle like the Camry or Grand Highlander.

Detroit types are quick to chew into me, when I accidentally use USDM to refer to US-specific models from non-American brand products. Mostly non-UAW vehicles.

I guess a Buick Encore or a Bronco Sport is not USDM vehicle according to their bitter logic or even a Charger, but don't tell them otherwise...

More on topic:

Anyway, yeah. I have context for the Land Cruiser price decrease. My first source in October 2019, pointed it out to me as serious off-roader, 2-row 5-Seater, and no luxury pretensions. Much cheaper. Had me guessing a long time...

Echoing some later sources, one of them was shown the 2024 Land Cruiser last December at a trade show and said it comes in fully loaded at $20k less than the URJ200.

Take that with a grain of salt...search for his posts, he goes by CygnusX191 on Tacoma World and leaked the numbers on the iForceMax last September.

Keywords to use are: "Land Cruiser" or "Prado" against his username. Don't expect him to know about the 4Runner, he seems clueless on that.

The Land Cruiser we are getting, has styling that is really different in my opinion from the 150-Series. Both the GX and new Prado for America, have to be related.

I don't understand why these boring ass renderings from Mag X and co. look nothing like a Wrangler rival.

I have to think, the main Prado version is based stylistically on the 300 and J150, while the other versions in GX and USA/CAN, get something different which attacks the "Wrangler" market as a larger FJ replacement.

And of course that horsey IFS competitor ;)

Not the 2025 4Runner, but according to insiders more representative of the 2024 Land Cruiser for USA (Motor Trend is Confused)

2025-toyota-4runner-render-motortrend.jpg

See my confusion at all of this?

2025 4R is pretty much a Tacoma...with some changes. I am actually concerned, that a lot of you who are enthusiasts, are probably not going to get another 4Runner.

You're gonna get a new GX or a Land Cruiser. The 4Runner only might appeal to the most staunch traditionalists or those who want to save money. A loaded 4R will come in at $55-60kish I guess, to ensure it doesn't touch the loaded LC at $65-70kish.

Although I've heard one rumor regarding the TTV6, it's considered questionable by our 4R source, who emphatically refutes it as false.

Unfortunately, the 4R source does not know much about the Land Cruiser compared to my HQ source.

I am getting tired of discrepancies between my sources, who I definitely don't want to insult, but in my experiences with covering the Tacoma, I'm losing my patience with dancing around inconsistent info to avoid offending someone. I'd sooner trust Toyota people over anyone else.

Easily makes me look stupid, if I share something and it turns out to be wrong, from not pressing the other sources to be 99-100% certain about the validity of the info. I give this forum credibility for being reasonable with me, unlike others.

I apologize for the length, but some points were made to give clarity and provide evidence, so no new questions were needed to be asked to further clarification.

Sorry, I definitely did not see it. At the time was running around Costa Rica in a South Korean Peugeot lol. I responded to your PM but not sure if it went through as I can't see anything in my sent items. Thanks for the great info. You know you stuff!
