Better Late Than Never Build Thread

Make a few while you're at it, wink wink. Seriously, do you have a good source for that? Are you talking vinyl stickers, or metallic?

I'm hoping the place I have in mind can mimic the factory metallic decal. I'll do vinyl as a backup option if I have to.

They've made me lots of custom stuff in the past.

I'd seriously be interested in a second set if you can track it down. Seems like half the battle is finding an original label image for them to use.

PM me if you're up to this, I'll definitely split the expense with you.

On the home stretch now.

Finished up the valve cover gaskets, half moons, cam plugs, and paint. I wasn't sure how the red would look, but it turned out awesome. Just enough shows to be an accent in the engine bay. Not sure I'd have done red without the supercharger. Woulda probably gone with a metallic silver with the stock intake.

Valve cover gasket job was a lot easier than I expected. 3 outta 10 on a 10 point scale.

The VHT Wrinkle paint is very durable and went straight on the aluminum with no primer. I did use a heat gun to get the texture more uniform but it seems to have gotten even better after a couple drive cycles in the truck.

Next up I need to detail the engine bay to make sure I don't have any other oil leaks. Kinda hard to tell at the moment with all the gook from the valve cover leaks.

Video in 3rd post.

I like the red. Goes well with the super charger. :)

None of my engine bays are that clean, though. It would be almost impossible to be with the amount of dirt roads around here. :)

Well, things didn't start off that clean. If I touched it I cleaned it. Figured it'd keep crap outta the intake etc when I reassembled and make engine detailing that much faster. I had two days for paint to dry, what else was I gonna do lol.

Also, been driving around a bit and fuel mileage seems to have improved quite a bit. I'm used to getting like 15.x MPG and now I'm seeing close to 18. I know it's not the red paint lol. Maybe cleaning the air filter, new supercharger oil, and cleaning the throttle body? I did find a half can of Seafoam in the cabinet and I put that in the gas tank. Anyway something improved somewhere.

Ha, that's what I was thinking! Speedy's never going to want to drive it off pavement ever again!

Doh, didn't realise you had grouped all your vids at the beginning of the thread and were referring to it. Old age! Why don't you also paste the YT link in the actual topic post too?
Nothing wrong with organizing at the beginning of the thread.

Just shows folks don't take the time to read. :) it's not old age. It's not being lazy and want everything spoon feed instantly to them. Old age is FSM only with no tips at all. Which is how some of us worked on things before the internet.. ;)

Thats what happens when you get them too clean..Or put a pile of money in them...:D

Yeah I bet once you invest a certain amount they either go full pavement princess or trailer queen, no in between lol.

Well it is kind of a thing. I had to force myself drive it in the rain yesterday lol. I've got quite a bit more planned so that'll probably get worse.

Owning this truck has been kinda interesting. At one point I thought about trading it for something else and wasn't offered anything for it on trade so I kept it, figured I'd haul the dogs around or whatever. Then they started to become classics I guess as I started getting offers from people to buy it. I kept saying no, and had a guy offer me $18K for it a couple years ago. I was like wow. Now I probably have one person a month ask me if it's for sale at restaurants, gas stations, etc. People email me from the YT channel as well. That's one of the reasons I decided to document the restoration stuff. I enjoy doing the videos, but I can also point someone to them if I ever decide to sell it (very unlikely).

So with that, off road days are over for this vehicle. If there were cool fire roads or trails to ghost towns, abandoned mines, or cool camp sites that wouldn't induce any body damage I'd definitely be doing that. Around here it's an "off road park" which really means someone's farm with a red clay, rutted out, branch covered trail, a rocky hill, and a mud hole. Not real fun to me. Been there done that and it just beat the truck up and took me a week to clean it up afterward. I'd be more likely to build a custom Heep, I mean Jeep, with a 6.4L V8 and fiber glass body for that stuff.

Meh, just seems kinda redundant. All the resto stuff vids will be in the 3rd post unless it gets to a point I can't add anymore.

My 4Runner started life as an SR5. I've seen where leather was an option on SR5 models, but I've never seen one that actually has leather besides mine. The leather isn't in terrible shape but it's 21 years old and it's 2002 Toyota leather which isn't the highest quality. I've also always wanted heated seats.

So...I'm looking at some Katzkin leather seats with heated elements.

What do you guys think....I'm leaning toward the black TRD embroidered logo. Obviously the seat bases are oak, not black like the picture shows.

I've already got a new arm rest cover that's NICE leather. I did black with a tan baseball stitch on that.

How much are they?

Gold emblems, interesting. Mine also has the moon roof and silver emblems, but I wanna do the emblems black. I also wanna get rid of the chrome bumpers and have them paint matched to the wheels/tube steps and paint the truck Inferno Orange Metallic, but we're getting ahead of ourselves lol.

I swung by the upholstery shop that Katzkin would send the leather seats to for install to chat with the owner. He said they're great quality and let me take a look at a set he was installing on another car. They looked/felt great. Much higher quality than the 21 year old Toyota leather. He said they'd get the foam up to snuff as part of the install (no extra charge) which mine needs....it's a little squished these days.

It depends on what you have done, but since I started playing around on their website and signed up for "offers" I've gotten emails about sales, 0% financing, etc.

Looks like a single color leather two row is $1800 which includes install. They have a network of installers based on zip code. I think one of the offers I got was $400 off that. Start doing 2 colors and it goes up $200 and heated seats are expensive but I'm definitely doing it. Will prob skip cooled seats (which they offer). I have that in my Hellcat and it's just "OK" but not worth what they want to add that feature.
