I have the same one, turn the compressor on before connecting it onto your tire, otherwise you will blow a fuse.
 
Hey does anyone have a nearby landmark for that Valero station? I think I found it. Is it in the same parking lot as a "Depot 24/7 Mini Mart" and also next to "Leroy's ski and snowboard shops"?
 
Man this run is gonna be a good one. Still can't go. I will be downs south and in riverside that weekend for my sons drum corp. oh we'll have fun out there and be safe.

EDIT: How large are your tires? From what the box says, I think it maxes out at about the stock size of our trucks (265/70/16) but I think that is just for quick inflation. Anything bigger would probably just take a few extra minutes.

My tires are 265/75/16's. I might be able to get a compresssor by then but not 100% sure.

My statement was a little bit of a guess before about when it maxes but I am sure it would work, if not, 3 other people will have compressors so there should be no problem :D
 
As of now the 'planned route will be 3N17 to 3N11C to 3N56 then head south and do 3N08. An alternate will be to head east to 3N61. These are all 'blue sq.' trails. They all can be done in a stock 4RNR with decent rubber

I can find those trails on Google maps, but I'm wondering...how do we get from the Valero station to 3N17?

Dirtopia says to head up through the town of Fawnskin, and up Polique Canyon Road. It sure seems out of the way though. Is that the way we'll be going?

No. We'll be turning onto GVL Rd. then going down through Crab Flats. Same route we took last time basically...

3N17 is known as the White Mtn. Trail. We will be going down 3N16 out of Crab Flats to 3N14 at the Big Pine Flat Campground. Since u will be in BB already, there's no sense coming to Running Springs. Just take 3N14 outta Fawnskin to the Big Pine Flat Campground. You can meet up with us there. We will leave RS at approx. 8:30(hopefully). I can only guess at our ETA at BPF Campground. Maybe we can exchange cell #s so we can keep in contact that day.

Three+ trucks will be at BPF: me (99-4Runner), Josh (88-Tacoma), Grant (Jeep Wrangler)

I use a mapping app for Android (sorry no iPhone version) called BackCountry Navigator Pro ($9.99) when going off-road.

I'm new to using apps off-road and I'm sure there are lots of other apps out there that are pretty good, even great. If you have Android I can vouch for this one.

I like it because you can DL multiple free USGS maps and use them completely offline, with the cell service turned off. Not airplane mode but just turn off mobile cell service and leave on GPS. The app works 100% as long as you pre-DL the data for that area. I just DL the whole Big Bear area we will be wheeling and it is < 50 MB. As you zoom it changes maps (layers) to provide up to 16 different map levels.

When you are on the trails it will show a NAV-cursor (not pictured since I am not in BB at this moment) just like Google Maps or iPhone navigation overlayed on the the USGS maps.

I usually look up the trails ahead of time and create NAV-points where trails intersect (example 3N11 & 3N17) for reference. I then DL the sections of the map where I will need the offline data.


Below are some screenshots for the app of Nav-points I created for this big bear trip. These are not 100% the trails we are going on, just multiple "good" locations for providing a sense of location to the app user.
