Bilstein 5100 - .85 Pic`s

Stupid Question Warning...look away now.**

I know I'm a little late to this thread but...you can put after market (non-OEM) shocks on either end and leave the stock stuff in place and it's all good?
.

CAN you? Sure. But why anyone would put mismatched shocks on any vehicle is a total mystery to me.

Just finished installing my 5100's at the .85 setting. This is a stupid question I know but I have the 20K mile service coming up and dont have a ton of free time. Is an alignment needed immediately after a minor lift of .85? I will do it at the service but I would imagine I can drive around a few weeks without significant tire wear as it didnt change the geometry all that much.

TIA

Just ordered '18 TRD Premium. Will be swapping out 5100s on all four corners and .85 setting using TRD wheels and 265 tires. Debating 10mm rear spacer specifically for load management. I will almost always have 3 kids in the back plus ski gear and cargo/ski box on roof.

Do I need the rear spacer to level out?

Thanks
B.

Little late but you shouldn’t need rear spacers at all with the .85 setting. I’ve been running this for some time now and no complaints other than wanting to maybe go up higher. I have no significant rear sag with a fully loaded cargo area and even when pulling a trailer.

I’ve done a lot of wheeling with my setup as well. More than all of my friends and it’s fantastic. The extra front clearance has been great, even at this lower setting. The ride is amazing both on and off road. I don’t crawl rock because I live in lame Illinois but it’s met my needs. Thinking of going up just for fun and to throw some 33” tires on. Really not necessary though. Plus I’ll have to ditch my cargo basket to get in the garage.

Cleared some of these obstacles the other day no issue.

The latter pics are just for additional reference for those thinking about the .85 setting.

Any of you guys have problems getting good alignment specs after installing the 5100s at .85? I’m looking at going this route, but just wanted to make sure before doing it. Thanks!

That small lift won’t cause any alignment issues. Any shop can get that in spec.

OK thanks! I didn't think there would be an issue, but just wanted to make sure.

One of my good friends was visiting last night and he has a leveled Tundra (spacer)...when I told him I was going to bump up my 4Runner slightly, he gave me an earful about how he regrets ever doing it.

That being said, I think Bilstein 5100s at .85 would present few downsides. Maybe mileage would drop due to a small change in aerodynamics, but I think ride quality and looks would be a big improvement. Ride is the main reason I want to do it, as the current setup has pretty bad brake dive and kind of wallows around on the road.

That’s odd. I used 5100’s set at the highest setting and 1” rear blocks on my old tundra and loved it. Rode way better that the stock crappy TRD bilstein suspension.

Even with my lift the 4Runner sort of wallows, maybe more. Nature of the beast of an off-road suspension.

He didn’t have 5100s and just added a spacer up front and still has the stock TRD shocks. Pretty sure he might feel differently if he had gone the 5100 route.

Bilstein 5100 .85" front OME 10mm Rear

Here's my rig after a .85" (second notch) front and adding 10 mm Old Man Emu "trim packers" on the rears with factory springs. I wish I would have done this years ago! Front suspension factory "feel" has not been compromised. I was nervous about this after having put a 2.5" daystar spacer lift on my 4th gen in the past and not being happy with the results. Lift is just right, I can still fit in most of the parking garages in downtown Chicago.

I'm sure the .85 community has seen this on some other thread, but anyways here is my .85 with 265 KO2s ....The KO2s help fill the well nicely ...add about 6 lbs per tire compared to Dunflop. In general the ride is stiffer, but also handles better

Do you have any pictures from the side and I take it those are stock tires?

Just got my Bilstein 5100 installed. .85 fronts rear stock. BFG 265/70/17.

Still happy 5 months later? And, how's the rack?

Sure man! Since then, mostly pavement, with the one trip to Lone Star Jamboree at Barnwell Mtn... and the Bilstein's and level have worked great. I run them at 35lbs now though...as the KO2s and Bilsteins are a stiffer ride...but that fixed those issues.

Rack is great...I have put kids up there and a few things from the HW store...so not really even scratching its capability. The Prinsu is well constructed and has had no corrosion or leaking issues as of yet.
