Bilstein 5100's & Cornfed spacers arrived

thanks - yes toyo at2's - 265/70/17. had some rubbing, but moved the fender liners in and relocated a couple of the fender pins, and took a dremel/sanding bit and took 1/2" or so off the below fender edge on each side - would never know and the edge sanded super quick. I had the spacers put on at the same time so not sure what or how much effect the spacers had, if any.

Had to do the same thing with my (soon to be sold to my son) 2003 4runner on the fender liners. Same size tires, but OME front shocks/coils, rear shocks and toytec rear coil spring - definitely rides stiffer than the 5100's, and I so miss that V8 though...For my driving, no regrets with the 5100's and cornfed set up and so much better than stock - enjoy that set up, especially for the price.

I can guarantee they don't look the same. Having been down this road before with other IFS vehicles, I'm curious as to what the boots look like with different amounts of lift and how much the life of the boots is reduced by the amount of lift and subsequent change in CV joint angle.

I think you missed the sarcasm. Boot is a boot is a boot. looks the same just compressed more on one side now. as far as life span so many things reduce life span when lifting the vehicle.... if you are that concerned about it I would skip lifting your truck and trading it for a prius

Don't be a douche.

CV angle is very important and his question is valid. The more level the axle is, the stronger the CV will be and the longer it will last.
 
Install is tomorrow.

Though I would try to save some money yesterday after a wind storm knocked out power, got bored and got to installing the rears, and rear spacers.

Problem is I started too late, was running low on light and really only had enough time to do the shocks. Tomorrow the dealer does the fronts, I could either let the dealer take the shocks back off and do the spacers tomorrow (blowing my attempt to save $$) or get under another day and do the spacers.

I like the feel of the 5100's. but like the bushing set up of the stock shock better, too bad they didn't fit on the Bilstein, Bilstein supplied bushing set seams less adequate.
 
What is the dealer charging if you don't mind me asking. Literally ordered this exact setup yesterday. Going to let the price of getting it installed decide wether I want to do it myself or not haha.

Quoted $460 for all four, spacer install and alignment. I already put the rear shocks on. So a bit less now.
 
UCA Issues

I am have the same set up as you, in my garage, ready to install. I was scared into delaying the install by another member claiming I couldnt get alignment into spec without aftermarket UCAs. What issues did you experience? Is it drivible until i can save up for UCAS? I have p285/70r17 Cooper A/T3s. Thanks.

The spacers in the pic say "rear" on them. Or do I misunderstand?

the rear in that photo (red 4runner- if that is what you are referring to) had the 1" cornfed spacers, and the top spacers contemplated were for the fronts in addition to/with the 5100's set at 1.75" (rather than setting them at 2.5").

as a side note - I did end up adding the wheelers 3/8 inch top spacer for the front, and left the front 5100's set at 1.75", and also used 1 1/4" rear cornfed spacer on the driver side and 1" rear on the passenger. I was anticipating about 3/4" additional lift in front with the top spacer (twice the 3/8" top spacer width), but got almost an inch - glad it did - lifted the front to my liking, no change in ride, etc. Still have about 1/2" of rake measured from ground to wheel well. The rear could still be another 1/2" higher for a future change- personal preference though
 
From the looks of it, those who did the bilsteins @ 1.75 and a 1" rear spacer, you still had 1" rake afterwards? If so, did you just want the rake for extra loading in the rear of the 4runner?

i am running this setup as well. i would say there is a little more than 1" of fender gap difference front to rear. i think i have more around 1.5" difference. yes it's to accommodate loading, but also personal preference. aesthetically i like the look, also "level" fender gaps usually makes the frame/rockers look negatively raked.

before and after from day -2 to day 180-ish?

thanks for the comparison there. Love that look too, i'll definitely go with that!
 
With bilstein 5100s set at 1.75 front and replace rear shocks along with 1 inch spacers rear will it sit leveled or is there a slight rake?
