Bixenon retros on 2005 Limited

Thanks man :thumb3: Yeah i broke that piece to but didn't matter as I installed new 08 lights. Wont effect anything on yours though. Those look really good. I have my 05 lights sitting in my closet. Im toying with the idea of dual projectors for both low and hi beam. Wounder if lightwerkz can make that happen....

That would be cool, but everyone on the road will think you have your hi's on all the time. You might piss off alot of people. Could attract unwanted (cops) attention too. I'm sure lightwerkz could make that happen though. As far as the clip, I hope I'm still good to go. We'll see on Monday I guess!

The hi's would only be on when i flashed or turned them on. wouldn't be on all the time i don't think. Ehh who knows if ill do it, would be cool but might be one of those in theory ideas lol. What color HID's are you going with?

OEM stock 4300K . I have them on my Honda's retros, excellent light! I had 8000k (i think, not sure) and those were too blue to the point they were not real useful, at least to me. Its good to see people on this thread go for retros or projectors instead of just dropping pnp kits in their halogen reflectos (blinds people).

All installed and wired up. No power. Checked my connections 15x, everything seems to be connected correctly. I can't figure it out. I've contacted them and pretty much waiting for their help. :cry2:

bad ballast? Wire just one up at a time and see if the fuse still blows. Or you could just attempt to power the ballast from another 12V source (car battery or booster pack) and see if it powers up the bulbs.

do you using relay harness? If yes first try to plug HID kit directly to your OEM wiring, this might help to narrow down your problem.

OK, I got ONE of them to power on, but the hi beam selonoid isn't doing anything when I "flash".......... The other side isn't powering on at all. Still pinpointing................

Update

The wiring harness I got from them appears to be defective (or I most likely fried it). I wired them DIRECT and they are powering on. Hi beam selonoids are not working. Something isn't wired correctly. Caesar being ever so patient on the phone is trying to pinpoint what's going on. The harness is definitely cat-put, he believes the wiring isn't done right. I'm currently buttoning up everything and heading to them in the morning. This is beyond me. Luckily, lightwerkz is about an hours drive away............ I justify the trip only b/c something definitely has to be replaced. I only have this week to do it. (took time off this week from work)

UPDATE: When installing, BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

Headed over to lightwerkz today and met the fellas there. Nice group. Anyway, didn't take too long to diagnose what happened to my retros. Turns out, the solenoid for the hi-beam (both of them) were fried. Apparently this is my fault. When I was installing them, I installed the plugs wrong and kept blowing the fuse (4Runner headlight). In most cases when you get the polarity wrong, it won't really do anything except not light up. In my case, I kept blowing fuses and this may have been too much for the solenoids to handle. One of my ballast took a dump too, but was replaced. My wiring harness was also replaced.

Real Fix: The only real way to fix the problem is to take the retros apart, dig the projectors out, replace it (b/c you just can't replace the solenoid) and reseal everything. Caesar was willing to redo the job, however it would've cost like a whole new retro. He and myself didn't think it was worth it. I was real bummed. He did remind me that the TL projectors are popular for a reason and that they (low beams) would still work without any problems. To be fair, a bixenon didn't/doesn't cost ALL that much more and it was my fault that the solenoids were burnt to a crisp. He and his crew really tried to fix the problem, but to fix my situation was to cut out the wires that power the selonoids and call it a day. Everything was reinstalled and it was aligned for me. They were working on it for close to 3 hours, but I wasn't charged a dime.

Lesson: When installing your HID/retro kit, be efffing careful! Be aware what is + and -. If nothing powers on and you keep trying to connect stuff you aren't sure (and blowing fuses), then STOP! Contact the manufacture or store and get help before you fry something.

Overall: Yeah, I'm bummed. But it was my fault. I still have working TL projectors and that is just fine by me. My factory hi beams still work and yes, I'm happy with that. What I paid for these retros is almost the same as I paid for my single beam HID on my Civic. I love driving my Civic at night, especially on the back roads. Anyway, Pics to come!

thats weird, so the high beam if wired reverse can make it not work, i thought the polarity didnt matter on that part. but i guess ur stuff is better than what im using. the morimoto works if the wires are switched, i tried both ways and it it works. wheres the output shots?

You are 100% correct. After installing and giving up, I noticed some 30amp fuses laying around and noticed something ominous. I had been putting the 30s in a 10amp rated slot. The headlight fuses are only 10amps!!!!! ...................... so I basically cooked the solenoids and fried one ballast. If I hadn't messed up the fuses, I most likely would be enjoying my bixenons. Instead, I'm enjoying only my low beams.
What a blunder!!!!!!!!! I think that can qualify me for FAILURE of the year. :dammit::ybrick:

Ok, well, after my solenoid disaster, I settled to keep the retros as is. The beam doesn't appear to be very wide, but it puts lights down very nicely where it needs to be. My RX330 projectors (on my Civic) seem to be have a wider beam pattern, but in analyzing it carefully...................... who cares!!! I'll most likely change this projectors out for another set of TLs (or FXr, who knows).

well u still got a better projector that my cheap morimoto d2s, but dont u think that 4300k is a slight yellow? try some 5000k bulb, get it from light werkz or retrofitsource tho, i love the output of 6000k on 55w, looks pure white to me, but with oem bulb (osram 66240) at that wattage it was halogen looking for me, warm white color, i like a pure white. i think u should gone fx-r projector, more width i think, but of course the lexus 460 projector i think is the widest of all projectors, with s2k following it from the last think i read and know.

Yeah, the more I drive it, the less enthused I am about the TL projectors. The side coverage (beam) isn't great, but who cares, right? What bugs me is the lack of light immediately in front of the truck. (see the pic labeled low beam). My RX330 projectors don't have this. I'll more than likely get FX next time. The apollo shrouds I have are awesome, but I still think the gatling gun shrouds will look better. As far as getting 6000K, I dunno. I like the OEM (under the radar) look and for me, the light is excellent. The 4300K have A TINY bit of yellow, but that's fine by me. I'd have to see some pics on the 5 and 6Ks. Nevertheless, this BLOWS the stock halogens out of the water...... I've heard the 55w ballast don't last long, how long are yours lasting?

my bulbs are lasting good, im using the five5 ballast morimoto, retrofitsource. i suggust 5000k for u at 35watts, but if u were to upgrade the ballast to 50w, use 35w bulbs thats 6000k so u get the same look of 5000k at 35w. its does look like u dont have enough foreground or the installer limit the foreground light.

the output of the light its not that white, slight yellow with osram bulb, camera just make it look white.
