Black Rims?

Your rims look awesome black. I think gray and white 4runners look good with black rims, depending on the rim. I was gonna paint mine black, but that would just be a little too much on a black body. I honestly like the look of the flat allow rims on mine. But come warmer temperatures this spring, my rims are going gunmetal.

Gunmetal! (Graphite, technically....)
They were a little dirty for the picture, the paint job is clean...except the spot on the rim from mounting the tire, which I touched up later.
Very nice. No show really. They just look tuff.

you can get a nice pair of aftermarket rim for around 500$
They look so much better then stock, its not even worth messing with paint and etc.

Meh, I don't know about selling the stockers and putting towards new ones. They don't sell for much. Plus I think both the stock 4runner wheels look pretty darn good painted black or gunmetal.
I wouldn't go glossy if I were you, I think it would clash with the flat black of the plastic fender flares and running boards. I'd go with a nice flat black or that bedliner, it would blend with the rest better IMO. Glossy looks good on Xideshows cuz its chrome and white with no black bits to throw it off.

I would vote for the gunmetal color.
Actually I found this thread searching for what types of paint people were using just short of actually powder coating them.
I have the split spoke and they are looking rough. I was wanting to paint mine to this summer. Trying though to get my pastor to trade me his 5spokes for mine.

Another option is the OEM 5 spoke wheels that came on 99+ T4R's. I think that they look great and I'm probably gonna upgrade to the 5 stars as soon as I can find a set from a junkyard.
IMHO on some trucks black wheels look killer, but on some it don't look right. Personally, I think that your would look best w/ silver. My $0.02

LINYRunner has a good looking set of black rims. He added a red pinstripe if I remember correctly, other than that, Black rims are a little overdone. I'm restoring some 3 spokes now, still fooling with the colors but I assure you graphite will be the darkest I go.

Those wheels just dont look right, "rice" is what comes to mind for some reason.
If I end up painting mine I will probably go with a grey shade of some sort.

Those look great!! Exactly what I want to do to mine since they are looking pretty bad. What brand of paint and color did you use? Did you primer?

Scuff well with red Scotch-Brite, degrease with paint thinner, 3 or 4 coats Duplicolor Self-Etching Primer, 3 or 4 coats Duplicolor Sandable primer, some touch-up sanding/degreasing, then 4 coats Duplicolor Graphite Wheel Paint, 3 coats Duplicolor Wheel Clearcoat. Sounds like a lot of coats, but drying time is 2-10 minutes between coats, and 30 min. or so between types of paint. I just used a cooking timer while I was doing something else more involved that I could stop every few minutes.
I went with the acid-etch primer because I had to scuff down to bare metal in a few places on each wheel. I did mine with tire off because I was going to new tires so I had to do minor touch up after mounting. Wait a week before touching up or it runs. Paint still looks good now after 5 months and some winter and a few washes. Mine were lightly curb rashed and clear coat was nasty over maybe 40%. Before pic:

The fender trim is sitting on my kitchen table for de-chroming. The bumper I will do when it's warm--still not sure how. I have an old dented rear side piece I am going to experiment on.
