Blown JBL Sub. Options?

I used the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2‑8. It went in without modifying the box. I'm still using the factory amp and it drives it just fine. I had to make some new holes to hold it in and cut the connectors to attach wires to the new sub. Super easy swap. I think I paid $90.

Hey man, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have a question for you. I just ordered the same subwoofer to finally replace my blown JBL. How is the wiring? I am keeping my stock amp and I know there are four wires coming from it. I have to snip the connectors and then wire it up. I noticed on this website that there are two ways to wire it under the "WiringWizard" tab. One talks about 1ohm and the other 4ohm. Any idea which is the proper way to wire it?

I know there are two positives and two negatives on the stock connector. Do I just do 1 positive and 1 negative on top and then same thing on the bottom? Do I put the positives together? Do I just copy the stock config? Thanks!

I just installed the PS3D2-8 sub and it has two + and - posts that you connect the stock wiring to. Before you cut off the stock plug mark the + and - stock wires with tape. You will see on the factory plug ends a -symbol. That wire will be the negative wire. Don't over think it. It will be obvious once you get it opened up.

The speaker might be stuck to the sub box. I used one of the screws and screwed it into a small tab on he speaker ring a bit and then pulled. You will see this after you remove the mesh cover with the foam ring.

Ok thanks man. Yea I probably am overthinking it. Guess I'll just see what happens when I finally have the sub and the back portion of my 4Runner apart.

After install of the aftermarket sub did y'all put the original plastic grate with the foam protection ring on it that was on the original stock JBL sub? Just curious if it was necessary and if so if it works with the aftermarket units... ??? Or do you just throw it away and roll with out it

Sub Help

As stated already, this subwoofer is the SHIZNIT :thumb3: Not only is it shallower than the OEM subwoofer, it's also mondo heavy and SUPER easy to install.

The holes don't line up and I didn't bother with screwing through new holes. I simply used the factory screws to hold the sub in place by the outside perimeter. So far the sound is awesome. OEM speaker cone was COMPLETELY torn 360degrees!

***Note: I used the EWD to figure out the POS & NEG wires from the amp to the sub. However, the EWD does NOT show you how the wire colors at a connector located on the left of the amp. They're basically using a short extension to the sub and didn't maintain the same wire colors. So, pay attention to the color and polarity. ****


I took a pic with the LED headlamp, so the quality is poor but you get the idea.

So now I have Rockford Fosgate speakers all around (minus the dash center and the tweeters) being driven by the OEM HU. This will satiate me for a while until I find a Scion FRS HU.

It has been a while since this thread has been active, if anyone could still help it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently installed the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 sub as a replacement for the factory sub. I did this as a plug and play with the factory JBL sound system and am still utilizing the factory amplifier. When i play music it sounds great but once i hit about 1/3 volume (bass setting on factory headunit at 0) i can hear a knocking sound. This sound is confirmed to be coming from the subwoofer itself not the housing.

Has anyone had this problem of the sub making a knocking sound before?
What are the solutions to resolve this?

I contacted crutchfield as they were who i bought the sub through. They werent very helpful other than to refer a replacement amp as well and also seemed to think the sub was not defective. This could be a solution but i wasnt really looking to replace the amp and i have seen many other people find success with their replacement using the factory amp.

I know this is old but did you resolve the knocking issue? I was going to buy that same sub.
