Doubt it...
If you read some of the earlier replies on this thread, you'll see that this has been an issue for iphone users that don't have navigation. It works with the navi units, but not with the standard head unit. I was just giving a solution for other iphone users that wanted to store names to be displayed.

BlackBerry Curve Drops BT Connection
Hello everyone, I know this has been beaten to death, but I am having a problem with my 2011 SR5, non-navigation head unit. When I am paired with the BT and am in the phonebook setup to transfer addresses from my phone it drops the BT connection. I have tried having the BB push the address book and then confirm the transfer, but it still drops the connection. Once I exit out of the setup it picks back up again. Any ideas?

Same thing happens with my Nokia. It seems like some phones work and some don't, regardless of Nav or base stereo.

I did figure something out last night, if I turn the BT on my phone off, and then push the address book it will push the first number, but then lock up again. Very strange, I would think that it would work with the BB since that is a fairly popular phone.

OK time to revive this thread, I have the HTC EVO 4G LTE with Ice Cream Sandwich 2.2 OS, I also have a 2012 LE without entune. My contact synced flawlessly and the first time I used the phone after connecting it I had all my contacts in my address book listed on the nav screen.
After making a call and hanging up and then trying to make another call from my phone "Without" using the speech commands my contacts are not there, the only time my contacts appear is after I connect the phone for the first time. Anyone else having this problem???

Have you tried the "Refresh Phone Book" feature? When I add new contacts to my iPhone I do this and it adds them. I have entune, so it may be different from yours. though...

I actually figured this out myself by accident, here is what I found.
Phone bluetooth is on, get in car, start her up, phone connects press phone icon on my nav all contacts are there, slipped her into reverse and backed out of my garage, and they were gone, but Aha! my back up camera comes on so I think cool no problem, slip it into drive and go and all my contacts go away. I was like WTF! So I pulled over and stopped the vehicle and low and behold my contacts pop back up.
So now I'm thinking, maybe it's a Toyota safety issue, so I put her back into drive while still looking at all my contacts and slowly pull away. "BAZINGA" the contacts go away, I stop again and BADABOOM they come back.
My assumtion is that if you want to make a call from your contact list "while you are moving" you have to use the voice activated control, but while stopped you can scroll through your contact list.
Hope this helps other people out.

You are correct. The phone book (through the use of the buttons) is unavailable while the vehicle is in motion. You must use the voice activated commands. You also cannot refresh the phone book while the vehicle is moving.
Additionally, you cannot put a new address into the GPS while moving. You can, however, pull up already stored addresses while driving.

But you can dial from screen using the head unit speed dials - there are maybe six to a page, and you can add three pages. I don't understand why it'll let you drive and use speed dials, but not contacts. Makes no sense, but at least if you're parked and add critical numbers in via speed dial, you have access to them while on the go.

I had noticed that with the bold, when transferring, it only does the first contact in the book. Why? - because it prompts you to record a name via voice for announcement of who you are calling, which causes the error.
Can't seem to bypass this. But I had to enter them in via bluetooth individually, and then record a voice for each one.
This is on the non-nav (Magnetic Grey) 2012 4Runner SR5 upgrade package.
But lovin the ride! - even got a front Brush Guard - however they don't seem to make tail light guards for it yet, due to the new design of the pertruding tail lights...
Anyways, that's what I've discovered so far - also - Party Mode button is great!

iPhone 5 does not display contacts
Glad I found this thread! I just bought a 2010 T4R Limited and my nav does not display the contacts while driving. And it doesn't display the contacts name either when a call comes in while driving. When I'm stopped I can see the contacts but this is driving me nuts. Has anyone figured anything out? Thanks

I'm just bumping to see if anyone has a solution to this.
I'm driving a 2010 4Runner Limited without NAV, so I've got the JBL stereo with upgraded 15 speaker package. My phone is an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4. (I'm hoping that iOS 7, releasing in the Fall, will have a fix for this... but I'm not getting my hopes up.)
The iPhone 5 will NOT push contacts to the JBL system. The only thing I've been able to get on the stereo display is the number, above which is written NO NAME. (I was really hopeful when I found this site, but it didn't work with the JBL stereo.)
The only way around this that I've found (like others mentioned in previous threads) is to use an old Motorola phone I found lying around the house (an old Motorola Razr), type my contacts on that phone, and upload them one-by-one into the JBL system.
Sounds like I'm battling the same things as everyone else... but just wondering if anyone else has found a more simple solution.

You've made it this far, you are about to punch the 4runner you love so much for having such a crappy BT interface that you cant see who is calling--
I at least found this site:

Which allows you to see what phones are capable of updating an address book or single entry. Sorry iphone users, appear out of luck (I'm one of them).
I was able to find one device for at least manually programming my frequent contacts with my friends Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V), (Verizon Wireless).
