New guy here – got a 2011 t4r SR5 and have under 3000 miles so far.

What is the best solution for the nose dive, excessive body sway etc. yet still maintains a good highway ride? – truck tires (LT), stiffer shocks, or new springs? Don’t really want a lift, just don’t like the boat ride. :violin:

Will FJ cruiser suspension stuff fit the 5th gen 4runner? How are the stock FJ cruiser springs? Any good? Know of any good sources for used stock FJ springs?

Will 16 inch wheels fit the 5th gen? Why do the Icon folks recommend 16 inch wheels.

What is the stock wheel backspacing? Does less back space allow larger diameter tires?

Don’t really want a lift, just don’t like the boat ride. :violin: you'll need some type of stiffer spring/shock combo, a bilstein 5100 at 1.75" level it and they out and be a bit stiffer, and add the 5100's in the rear for no lift + you could also use the air bags in the rear to stiffen up the rear and not add much lift if any.

I haven't seen anyone do this on a 5th gen but the 5th gen 4runner is a heavier vehicle so i would think it already has stiffer springs than the fj, OME calls for a different spring (rear) and all 4 different shocks are set up for a heavier vehicle.

Will 16 inch wheels fit the 5th gen? Why do the Icon folks recommend 16 inch wheels. they dont fit the calipers are too big, maybe you could swap out all the brake stuff but that alot of trouble to have 16's

What is the stock wheel backspacing? stock is 17x7 w/ 4.5 bs w/ 0 offset Does less back space allow larger diameter tires? no you need the proper wheels, but plenty of run 275/70/17 or 285/70/17 on the stock SR5 wheels and with out a lift the 275/70/17 is as big as you can go.

There's a ton of us trying to solves this. I can tell you adding LT tires made a HUGE difference for me. The brake-dive is still there, but it feels much more planted and secure.

X2. The 5100's i installed helped a lot with the dive but adding the LT tires made a very big difference in the floaty feeling.

I put 5100's all around. Ride is noticably firmer but not hard. Nose dive reduced by half. Clip set at .85 nearly leveled the rake. Glad I did it.

Too cheap to replace tires that I don't need.

Ditto.....I also got the caster adjusted in the alignment, made even more of a difference as to steering.

Minimal, as long at you don't go crazy with the tread pattern and avoid racing from stop light to stop light.

The Colt 1911 and the AK47 are purposely designed/made with loose tolerences. That's major reason for the ledgendary reliability that makes them iconic combat weapons. Not so good for bullseye shooting. Being good off the road calls for lots of wheel travel, different spring rates. If you want buttoned down ride/handling for your boulevard cruising you should buy a "crossover" that is so popular with the pretenders. Do you really think Toyota doesn't know how to design/build a good road vehicle? My 2011 Trail is strictly a hunting truck and it is great for traversing rough, sandy ranch country pastures and the steep grades of the Sandhills. So what if it is a little wobbly on the road the little time it's used there? Those of us with long memories recall when everything(almost)drove like that.
