Brake light help

Hey yall, on my 92 im having a problem on my brake lights staying on because my brake pedal is dipping just a hair. If I pick it up a little the brake lights go off.

Maybe the switch is close, or to tighten the brake pedal? Anyone had the problem?

You can adjust the pedal out to take the free play out. If I remember right you can move the brake light switch a little to fix it as well.

Check to see if the spring is not broken or detached. There is also a cushon bushing that presses against the stop lamp switch.

Where and how can I adjust it? Im messing with that nut on the brake booster valve. Its not touching the top contact point & goes down about a quarter inch. With it sitting there it is making my brake lights stay on. When I turn the truck off the lights come on until i press the brake then it goes off.

That is the contact point for the brake pedal. Its not contacting all the way, it has about a 1/4th inch play. Im not sure what may be worn out unless its just the sensor. Or, if I may be able to move the sensor or what not

It looks like that more silver colored nut can be backed off a little bit pushing the contact of the button forward so it touches the brake pedal more.

Same here. You are also missing the cushon (part 47131) that pushes the pin. That 1/4" gap may be thickness of the cushon. It's probably a rubber or plastic piece that looks like a button.

I think if you loosen the nut at the top and turn the switch, you might be able to make it closer, for the mean time. If you can find a short round head bolt you can put that in the place of the button, also. If you don't plan on using your truck until you get that part. You just stick a wedge (like folded paper) in it to keep you brake lights from staying on.

47131 in the above diagram.

a rubber washer, with a little nub sticking out.
look on the floor for it. but, until then, just adjust the switch closer.

edit, unplug the switch, loosen the lock nut, then screw the switch in further. when you have it where you think it needs to be, retighten the lock nut, and plug it back in.
check to see if the brake lights are off.

According to ToyotaMotorParts it's called, CUSHION(FOR STOP LAMP SWITCH) Part Number 541-06036, but I usually go by the FSM number 47131. It cost about a $1 at the dealer.


The nut below is welded. The top nut is what you need to losen. What nevada said.

Fixed - cushion. Where does 47101a go? I noticed when I changed the brake booster, the spring came off and I couldn't find out where it goes.

I think it hooks on the bolt with the cotter pin, on the end. In your picture the groove right of the cotter pin.

Already bought it from yota & put it in. Im talkin the spring.

I looked at my brake pedal this morning. The spring on mine, is on the right side of the pin. It connects somewhere near the left side of the steering column. You may need to remove the lower cover to see where it might hook to. Attached is a picture of mine, I tried to get my camera in as much as possible. Hope it helps.
