Brian2sun Build Thread

my friend with the first gen has 5.29 with 35s he says he loves it wheeling but on the freeway doing 75 hes hitting close to 4k rpm

Yeah brian and i were talking about this. The manual trans made my 4.10's with 33's feel almost like brians auto with 4.88's and 33's. I am about at 3500 rpms doing 80 with 410's now. I think 5.29's are too low for long trips (like to the rubicon next summer :)

yeah 4.88 is fine unless you want to run 37s in the future, and yes rubicon im already excited!

I think 4.88s will be $$ for you Jason. They really aren't that bad even with my auto/35s (I'm surprised, but happy). My guess is that your truck with 4.88s and 35s will be at least as powerful as it is now with 4.10s and 33s. And yours really isn't bad now. I think 5.29s will make you drive 55 on road trips and that would suck.

I had 33's on my '96, with 4.10's and it was fine. Now that I have 33's on my '99 with the 4.30 rear.....I honestly feel like I could run 35's, just on the 4.30's. Granted I live in midwest, were elevation changes are measured in inches. Seems to me that 4.88's are about the perfect gears for our trucks if you use the truck for daily driving and have big tires. If you only crawl with it, then sure, 5.29's.

Mine is only a wheeler. :) I would never put 35's on 4.10's or 4.30's out here. 33's and 4.10s with a manual trans is okay, but not good.

But i do end up far from home wheeling. Rubicon, moab ect. Im glad to hear your truck seems to be in an okay power band Brian. thanks for the insight. Lets go wheelin!

I may go tomorrow night on a mellower run just to test it all out if you wanna go, but I know you said you had midterms all week. Otherwise I probably won't be able to go until next week sometime. You wanna ditch a day next week?

I'd love to wheel Colorado! Hopefully I can get out there this summer. If you're ever out here, we'll definitely have to go wheelin!

Speaking of Colorado: I'm meeting my brother in southwest Colorado next summer for family vacation/Alpine Loop 4wheeling. I'm coming from MO, he's driving from AZ. We'll both have our family's with us, but we're still planning to drive as many trails as possible in a week.

Not sure on a time yet, but it would be SWEET if other guys from the forum wanted to hit the same area at the same time. Ouray, Lake City, Telluride area.
