Did some FS roads this weekend; Ridge road from Wenas to Saleh, found a camping spot overlooking Tieton river, and ran a road to little bald mtn. First time with the fridge, so much better than a cooler.

Wenas was about 95% doable in a car. A few short areas are deeply rutted and would stop anything with low clearance.

Over Tieton river, we found some trails, but ended up not venturing too far, we were looking for a camping spot.

Bald Mtn turned out there are excellent views. Snow patches remain on the top but nothing too bad.

Checked out bumping lake area and had lunch

Over Chinook Pass to home...

Another VANOS issue has me taking off the VC on the car and praying it wasn't serious. A good time to do the valves shims though. Damn near everyone needed a new shim. The ones up against the firewall are fun.


I modified some markers though to house a corner flasher. Came out very tightly sealed with the sockets. I have a spare set of sockets if anyone wants them.

Fighting a cold so just did some small things to the 4runner this weekend.

I cut up a scion switch and my lower dash. This is for my sub tank.

I also finished painting my whitson rack. I am adding a couple more light and antenna tabs, and a curved LED bar. 2 adjustable cross bars and quickfits are on the way. It did come in a bit bent, but will bend it back once I figure out how to hold it down.

quickfits with derped conduit brackets, antenna tab and relocated antenna, reverse light tabs added. Adjustable crossbars I need to sort out. I got the brackets in for the light bar. Still waiting on the light bar.

giving up on the curved 36" lightbar. Ordered a straight one instead.

Finished by removable cross bars. Welded some of the pieces so it would be fewer things to hassle with.

Rack looks great! What did you end up painting the rack with? I've heard varying results with people rattle canning it, some get a lot of paint rubbed off but others seem fine.

Guess it could depend on paint used.

I used some satin wheel paint. Its holding up well on the wheels so figured it would work on the rack.

Overall I am extremely pleased with it. I now have room for an inverter on off switch, the 115V plug, an OBO switch and an extra. Winch controls are going in the dash mirror square (I have a plan for that). This leaves me with 2 extra blanks. One on the dash and one on the console and I cant think of anything else I would need. All the added functions will looks pretty OE.

then kindly share with me how you would wire a side mirror switch to control a winch or anything for that matter!

also really interested how you paint the center console so the black plastic part matches the other black plastic trim.... i truly don't understand how it can look the same after all that sanding and filling......

finally got them on. Work has been busy and its been hard to drop the car off. That and finding a place that will do the work.

I could share I was quoted 450 for the headers, and it went up from there for the connector and modifying the flange and the welding. In the end Auburn offroad wasn't the place to take it. It took them much longer than anticipated.

Their final gripe was 'oh and we had to remove all your skids'. I was thinking... um ok, that's not too hard and would be on every off road rig here.

Commenting on skid removal says a lot to me. The guy at quick change, who does the oil once in a while, just charges me 10 extra bucks to remove it and doesn't feel the need to mention it.

Thanks! Its near maddening to get things how I want them sometimes.

Center mirror switch I am not using. mud/tech has some switch diagrams for using the mirror switch though. I think others have used it here too.

The console paint is the green can duplicolur black trim paint. The entire part is painted and matches the rest of the black trim well.
