Brilliant's Mod Thread

How much travel are you running on your rear shocks? I plan on running outboard shocks and I'm just trying to see what everyone is running

I can't quite remember. They are 4rth gen et rears. The other advantage is they are vsrticle so for the travel in the shock you get more axle travel.

Thanks for posting the specs on those mounts. If do anything else I think that'll be one of the things. I currently am running the 4th gen shocks also but not utilizing all the travel in the stock location. I have raised my axle mounts though so lost an inch up there but lots of droop.

Curios if you get into your gas tank skid all with the increase travel? Or did something to limit that.

Love your rig by the way so subtle, custom and clean.

Did you raise your rear mounts to avoid getting hung up on rocks. Did it interfere with your rear sway then?

I haven't had an issue with the tank. I know it can be but I don't disconnect the rear sway all too often and that might be why I'm not seeing it much - I'm not flexing it out very often.

I like what Audi guys call OEM+. A couple major mods left and she'll be done.

Slider Filler

Purpose: Add filler panel to sliders to limit rock kickup

Process:

 • Cut cardboard templates
 • Cut out templates from perforated steel
 • Weld in place at 4 corners

If you could make me this exact grille that would be awesome I want one so bad but I don't think I could do it without screwing up ive been looking around everywhere and none of the grilles look as good as this one. I understand what you would need to make this and will be willing to pay for this! please consider making me one it would be greatly appreciated!

After years of looking at 3rd gens, I finally bought one. A Desert Dune 99 limited with the locker. This is my first Toyota, and first 4wd. I've wanted one for years so I am pretty excited to own it. I lasted 1 day before I started modifying it.

I've got a pretty detailed write up on how I did it. Its not all too hard, just extremely time consuming. I've got too many of my own projects to close and I dont think I have any time to make them.

I used BigFishAllDay as a starting point. His is a very nice example as well.

Did the rack bushings today replacing them with ES polys. Not something I'd ever want to do again. The center being a mm off was a whole lot of fun getting it back in.

These also shipped today, surf small spoiler, and surf tire carrier.

:dancin::dancin::dancin:

How'd you go about sourcing the spoiler? I've been wanting that OEM one for quite a while, but the only method I've found is Yahoo Auctions, which is a bit of a pain to deal with.

man its going to be painful drilling into your pristine rig......

what do you plan to do to reinforce the sheet metal there???

Welding the rockers was nerve racking. I dont think drilling will be a big deal. I'll check and recheck.

I intend to replicate others on the reinforcement. blcktpgsr and another guy on yotatech have already done it. I just need to follow them.

A pain it is, and tad more expensive than a bertman replica.

Got em in today. Carrier mechanics and the led light works, but is missing the plastic caps on the carrier. I have to source those as I clean it up and add the metal strip build up to it.

Man the surf carrier looks almost identical to what I dreamed up for attaching it to the truck. I ended up just forward of the brake light.

Are you ordering the tailgate or just reinforcing the one you have?

I will say make sure you use a heavy gauge on the interior reinforcements however you figure it out. I had my latch....unlatch and it would have ripped off if I hadn't.

I like those spoilers!

A couple other guys have done the carrier swap and there is a detailed write up. I have a blue surf hatch and dont know if I'll cannibalize it for parts or paint it to match. I learned some stuff after I bought the surf hatch and will post up the details.

Send it this way! :hungry:

Really good read by the way, your headlights are absolutely insane.
