Buzz or low growl sound 2010 4Runner

I had the truck in recently to diagnose a buzzing or growl sound but they couldn't hear it! The truck is new to me and did it from the start. I can only hear it while it's idling.

Dealership thought it could have been the waterpump, but then determined it was ok. When I accelerate I can hear the buzz speeding up then it gets drowned out by the engine noise.

Any ideas? I know this is pretty vague, but it's worth a shot to see if anyone else had this issue.

Possibly the power steering pump? Thanks

I think @haper7 mentioned how to fix the issue, I wonder if this is what you are experiencing?

This could be 1000's things ranging from engine & accessories to the drivetrain, tires, etc.

I'd check all your fluids including diffs & t-cass (make sure they are clean and don't have water or are really dirty. Grease all the zerks under the car. I know I've had diffs low on fluid that have sounded like a growl, but there is tons of stuff it could be.

Thanks, I will take a look at that heat shield, but I believe its more of a buzz then a chatter sound. I've had Tacoma's in the past and they are a pretty noisy engine, but I haven't heard this sound before.

Thanks, yes, I have been working through it, funny I can only really hear it inside the cab when I'm stopped waiting at a light. When I step out I can't hear it anymore.
