Can the climate controls and/or digital readout bar be removed/relocated? 03-05

That might sound like a strange question, but in order to better fit a touchscreen monitor in the center of my dash, I'd like to see if I can move those two things UP a few inches. See pic below. It looks like they are separate pieces from the (silver in a SE) plastic center surround, but I don't know if they can be removed and moved. I have room below my head unit if they can go there.

I could tear out the dash and find out, but it's cold here and I'm lazy. Plus maybe either someone has done this before, or their dash is already pulled apart and can check.

some good pics of the back of the ac control unit. I've taken apart the unit when prozac and I had to change out the circuit board when I did the radio swap with him.

Looks like a good news/bad news scenario. That piece is easily removable, but it looks to be DEEPER than I originally thought. I might have to dremel out a section of the dash kit that holds in my head unit to get that top section to mount properly.

Yup, car PC. I'm looking for ways to install a laptop (somewhere?!), so I can have MP3, Nav, and WiFi capabilities. That new Clarion unit (it's called N.I.C.E.) looks cool, but it's about a G note and you only get 20gb total for MP3's + Nav, plus no WiFi.

From what I remember the last time I had everything taken apart, this may be possible, but you may be adding a real PitA to your project by doing this. I had someone break into my car recently and try to steal my head unit. They did not get it, but managed to do some damage while trying to pry it out. I will have to take it apart in the next couple weeks and I will look at what it will take.

But I really have to wonder about that guy. He buys a really nice 4 runner which obviously costs some good money. Then he takes the dash apart to install various switches, and to custom paint all of the dash pieces. Then he complains that he wished he had a ratchet to make removing the bolts easier!

I mean come on... :lmao: He knew he was going to need one and can obviously afford one, but doesn't bother to spend the $10 at wallyworld...

I MOVED MINE LIKE 3 IN DOWN I HAVEN'T BEE ABLE TO REALLY CLEAN IT UP. bUT I CAN HAVE SOME PICS UP TOMO. i REALLY LIKE SEPERATE CONTROLS FOR THE HEADUNIT. iTS MUCH EASIER TO NAVIGATE THROUGH CONTROLS. I ALSO DIDN'T HAVE THAT MANY CHOICES FOR DOUBLE DINS AND ALWAYS HATED THE POCKET THAT DIDN'T FIT ANYTHING.
