I hope this helps others trying to understand the same issue and solutions.
I have a 2015 Trail w/ KDSS, the Toytec Ultimate Adjustable Coilovers. I have them set where my center of hub to fender measurement is 22" (not too much lift). I love the ride and am happy with the look as well. But of course I'd like to go higher (and have the adjustment to in the coil overs to do so).
As we lift our IFS vehicles, we have to be aware of increasing our CV angles. I've heard that the CV boot life starts to become compromised when the "ribs" touch each other. The higher you go, the worse this condition becomes.
I understand there are limited solutions to this:
1 - you can install a differential drop kit which lowers the front diff to help reduce the CV angle (but also decreases ground clearance under the diff)
2 - you can install different 'hose clamps' to spread out the CV boots to help reduce the touching but this seems a little 'home-brewed'.
Anything else a guy can do to limit the effect of lifting on the CV boots (and the CV's themselves)?
And, at what angle do you REALLY start compromising your CV's and what in the world is everyone doing about it? There are plenty of guys on here with much more lift than I - did you resign to the fact your CV boots will prematurely wear? What did YOU do about it? I've seen some Toyota's at the dealership with factory-installed lifts and their CV angles are much more severe than mine. Is it just not that big of a deal?
I'll show you mine if you show me yours! Also, post up some hub-to-fender measurements if you don't mind.
(My end goal: get comfortable with cranking my lift up another inch or so to gain some more clearance.)
