"Canadian" Bug Guard

3M on a black car.. yikes! Just remember to take care of the 3M protector and makes sure you wash/dry/wax it like if it was painted. Otherwise it'll discolor and you'll have issues with it.

what kind of damage was done to it?

Paint damage occurs where the clips where. Not to mention it is very difficult to wash underneath. Here in CO we see some gusty winds. The deflector, no matter where and how many "nubbins" I placed underneath, would still vibrate violently. It came off at a rest stop on my last road trip. Quiet and cleaner looking without it.

Shame to hear that man...I can tell you that I recently (last week) put about 1000 miles on my runner going from my base to Paris, then to Bavaria, then to the Black Forest and back home. During that run I averaged speeds over 90mph (closer to 100 on the German autoban) on the Euro highways and didn't experience the wind vibrations.

I will tell you that after about 3 months of use, I noticed a gap form between the center nubbin and the deflector. I filled the gap by placing layers of double-sided tape on the underside of the deflector until it reached the nubbin with a snug fit. Like I said above, 1200 and no vibrations.

As for the paint damage, did you use the 3M protective tape?

Yes, I did use the 3M "protective" tape. It didn't protect...

No. It has screws that clamp it to the hood from underneath. It takes a small screwdriver and either a good eye to put it in the middle of the hood or a small ruler/tapemeasure. 10 minutes tops.

sweet! thanks!

well, its been about 3 weeks since the install and it seems the gap between the shield and where the dip in the hood is has shrunk...I'm going to get 2 more of the bump-ons to be sure it doesnt rub.

Anyone know is they still make these for the 4th gen's? I love them but can't find a company that sells the Canadian bugshield style that will ship to PA. Thanks

4runner hood deflector

Hi DaveS. Your 4runner looks grate but mine looks like missing something from the front end. For maybe an year and half I try to find this bug shield but everywhere I'm asking nobody give a right answer. I have to many chips on the hood and trying to fix them. No chance, the rust if it is not proper treated comming up again and the hood looks like an dalmatian dog. Please let me know the steps how to order. Thank you

CAME OFF??....Better check your lug nuts?

Sounds like schneidermj installed it wrong? Ive never had a bug guard come off?..lol Not tightened correctly when that happened no doubt.
I drive over 100mph all the time in vehicles with them on. Even go through touchless car washes with big ass blowers blowing every direction without failure 1 yet.
I lived in Kansas by Dorthy & Toto and had them on trucks with no issues "ever" if that says anything for their toughness? They pretty much need a direct hit to go flying off if installed right now days, so damn!..lol

Well' runn4hunt, everything I found shows me Focus makes them just like Br1ck stated early on here. Odd thing is 03-05 4Runners are now missing from the only app list I found online? Hope its not the one you need?

As a retired molding tech I can only give an educated guess as to why?
1) Maybe since 03-05 4Runners grilles were so close in design to 06-09 they may have sacrificed the older mold to make the 06-09 (HD 20G06). If sales were slow on them it would make since. They save alot on mold making like this. Our plant sacrificed an original 64-66 Ford Mustang dash lens mold Ford left behind to build a Crane Navel Base Government mold that paid 5x more per part.

2) Maybe the (HDW 20G 03) 03-05 guards mold developed major problems during production creating bad defected parts or was crashed while running by operator/setup man and destroyed? If they felt it wasnt selling enough parts to pay for fix/replace the mold its forever done! Larger molds like these cost several thousand to even hundreds of thousands, depending on a parts design.
Only guessing its fate you know, but sorry it seems to be long gone whatever happened to the mold? Without a mold there is no part though.
My advice to 03-05 owners wanting one, watch flea bay and jump on them if you see any used or new as Focus can get you small install parts. :hunter:
It may be the only chance you ever get for an 03-05 4Runners "fanged" , "Canadian version" ,aka: HDW 20G 03.

Company who manufactures the Canada version. Contact them here to locate one.....
Focus Auto Design Inc

Application list: Distributor? 03-05 missing from list aka: (HDW 20G 03)??

Canadian bug deflector

Does anyone want to sell their "fanged" , "Canadian version" bug defelctor ,aka: HDW 20G 03 for a 03 4th Gen? This is an older thread and it looks like they have discontinued the manufacturing of this part because of demand. I've tried calling to the Canadian dealerships and have looked everywhere.

I took mine off because I thought it looked stupid...

Might have to put it back on because it's considered rare! Haha!
