"Canadian" Bug Guard

Hi Br1ck,
Thanks so much for your detailed explanation about the installation of the bug deflector. So basically the clamps stay on all the time and the bump-ons. That goes on the hood covering some area of the painted surface. I am just ready to make my decision, now, let me find out which one
looks better. I have seen pictures of the Canadian version, now I need to see the MacNeil and the Toyota. Thanks again for your valuable info...

I just got it in the mail and installed it. Here are your answers:

1) I haven't removed mine, but only 6 screws are used to hold the deflector to the c-clamps that are on the leading edge of the hood.

2) there are 6 pieces of 3M protective tape-like material that are installed on the hood where the c-clamps go to prevent paint damage. I was happy with the quality of the material and as I stated above, it is now installed.

3) No vibrations yet. You have to pull out the measuring tape and follow the instructions. They explain exactly where to place the large and small bumpers and my deflector rests on them at all times. So, there is no movement of my deflector. I live in Germany and have had my V8 up over 100mph with no problems.

4)No part of the deflector touches the hood. It touches the 5 bumbers and the 6 c-clamps. The c-clamps go on the hood, but overtop of the 3M tape.

Finally, this deflector is different in every way (installation, look, design) than the weathertech that I removed. I like them both and would say that the height of the weathertech will help propel bugs over the windshield better than my new one, however, the look and extra rock protection around my grill easily justify the use of the new one to me.

So, I give it 2 thumbs up and now the rest is up to you.

Is it easy to remove if you want to take it out when you wash the truck?

Ordered when I saw it here. Was backordered as several here beat me out of their few remaining. Just called today and it will be another 2-3 weeks. :bugeye::nono: :wtf:
What a bummer. "Bug" season will be over by the time I get it on. However, it will still look good for the fall and winter!

but you'll be prepared...or you could just take a trip farther south. Here in the part of texas I live, we have bug season late into the year... ;):
 
i just got mine today from autoseattle.com...

i have to admit it looks really nice and is very well made. if you're looking for one to buy you should definitely get this... and yes its easy to take off.

i bought it for $79.95+17.50(shipping) = $97.45

i'll try to post pics when i get the chance.
 
Mine's on and looking great! It does catch alot of bugs and stones. I'd remind you to be sure to measure out everything and line up your holes with the hood before putting on the tape. It comes off easy but I did have a little difficulty with one of the slide on rubber things that the screws go into. It just didn't want to open up enough to let me get it all of the way onto the hood. A few pries of a screwdriver opened it up enough but my thumb hurt for a few days from pushing them on.

Put mine on the week after I got the car - Toyota Canada list price is C$120 including fitting - got it for C$85 from my local dealer - not a bad saving for a few minutes work to fit it myself.

Have not taken it off yet - being very careful when hand washing and drying - I just am not sure taking it on and off every weekend is going to do it much good after a while... (metal screws into plastic etc.)
 
nope, only got it to protect the area's that the US version doesnt cover on the front grille.
 
My main reason for getting it was to reduce the number of stone chips on the hood - the winter will be the test of that I think.
 
Ordered one from autoseattle. Recieved it today in about 1 weeks time. Took 20 minutes to put on. Looks amazing!

The picture I posted on page 1 of this thread is about the best you'll find on here of it. The Canadian shield has "teeth" that drop down and cover the sides of the grill. The others simply cover above the hood and don't protect the painted surface in the front - where all of the bugs and rocks hit!

There's a few threads on here showing the different shields. I check mine every week and it's yet to be loose. Pretty much an easy install and looks great on the truck.

I had one on for about 4 months. I recently took it off and chucked the dam thing. It ended up doing more damage than not having anything at all. If you're wanting to protect the front you're better off going with the 3M film. My 2 cents...
