Those who have CB radios, where are you guys mounting your antennas? I'm getting a 4ft firestik, don't know where I should mount it. Also does anyone recommend a mount? Thanks.

I like the custom mount, but I'd like something permanent that I don't have to move around every time I want to use it. Has anyone used those universal mounts for like the rear, above the taillamp?

That was going to be my Plan B. Seems pretty simple but since Plan A worked for me I did not look into it any deeper. I see them on all sorts of trucks and checked out the mounts the FJ guys are using - very nice.

I have mine mounted up front on my ARB. It is on a quick release mount, so I can take it on and off with ease. Go to a local truck stop and they will have a ton of mounts and stuff.

I also have a 4' firestick. I like it cause its just higher than my truck, so if it hits I know I wont fit :)

Mine is mounted to my roof rack with a generic "mirror" mount and quick disconnect + spring. Works great but the 4ft antenna catches every other tree limb on the trail, predictably.

Yea I was hoping more people had them mounted somewhere on the back, that way it would be like a foot out instead of 4 lol.

I am thinking of relocating mine to my rear bumper shortly as well. I just think that it will look better there. I will just drill a hole in my bumper and utilize the mount i have up front on the ARB. This way its out the way adn my line of sight. And i feel a little better protected.. If I ever get around to it I will throw some pics up.

Thanks! I should've checked his first couple posts and started from the back of the thread. But finally found it on pg 19 lol. I was actually looking for his thread, just bought that mount, lets see how it works with the firestik.

I just have a mag mount antenna now for my CB but was thinking about trying one of these motorized antenna mounts from Diamond. That way I could leave it on and still fit in the garage with it down.Never seen one in action and wondering how fast it goes up and down?

Several companies make them but not sure how durable they would be with tree branches. Just bought a mobile Yaesu Ham radio and studying for my test and will need to put up another antenna soon.

Maldol and Diamond are the mounts of choice in the Ham Radio Community....tlflow's mount is a very strong type that should suit you just fine....

The major problem with any type of "lip" mount is the high probability of the mounting screws biting through the paint and into the steel....thus causing a rusting issue....I know of no other way to securely hold the mount without that problem....therefore that is not an option for me.

On my last runner, a 3rd gen, I drilled a hole for a Motorola mount for a 17" 1/4 wave 2 meter antenna...that worked well for 3 years and it rusted around the mount....that was chore to clean up and repair....glad I caught it early to fix it....

I now use a 2 meter/440 Mhz halo magnet mount that works very well....however, your CB antenna is much to larger unless you opt for a larger 3 magnet system....not great....

Think I would try a mount, maybe the motorized version for garage use, mount it on the roof rack and run the coax like Antman did...that was cool....

For my radio install, I used a remote head unit, mounted the main unit in the hole where the non-exhistent JBL speaker goes and the head sits on a mount fabricated in the vacant space below the 12v outlet....looks like a factor install up front....need to dress up the wires in the back to make it look clean.

Let me know if you want pics and I'll be glad to post.
