cbielat's 2011 SR5 Build Thread

From what I hear, having the LT installed up front will make your life easier as well, as I think you're able to push the whole assembly up further than the rest of us. There's a 5th gen here in town with 315 MTZ's and TC LT up front and I cannot believe the gobs of room he has between the back of the tire and the body mount. I'm pretty much maxed out on + Caster with a BMC and I don't have anywhere near that, even with a 285/70.

Pretty sure mine isn't moved forward or even can be. I hear that's the AllPro set up. Still don't really understand how that can happen.

Hey man, sorry for the late reply. If you compare the position of the ball joint on a stock Toyota LCA and the Uniball position on a TC Long Travel setup, you should see that the position on the TC uniball is noticeably further forward by default as part of the design. This is all I was saying really.

Of course there's always the additional +ve caster that dialed at the lower cam-centrics as part of your typical alignment, but to get the kind of clearance I'm talking about, there has to be a geometry change as well.
Could be wrong, but this is what I've been told and it explains the clearance I'm seeing on this rig here with a good 4" of clearance between the back inside edge of a 315-70-17 MTZ and the chopped body mount.

Anyhow, I'm just really interested to see how this all works out for you, and how things compare to my stock length setup once the 315's are installed.
Cheers!

Right on. I see what you mean now. I'm planning on at least cutting the body mounts on Saturday just to get the tires on. I have some time before altering the fender.

Yea, I've often wondered how the overall clerance geometry works out with LT.. Unlike wheel spacers... Your pivot point is actually moved out. Also with the longer control arms the tire should be able to be positioned more forward (but hard to say).

I would wait to cut until you do some test fitting with the alignment set at at max caster.... I also wold also not be afraid to increase the bump stops a tad to avoid contact on full stuff. You will never miss a little up travel.

Are you going to run 315s or actual 35x12.5 (big difference).

I don't think you will need to do much for 315s... Should be pretty darn easy to clear.

Yeah dude, I'm not just going to start cutting the fenders without test fitting lol.

Tires don't run true to size. There may be a couple tenths of an inch off of the "35". Mine are 315s which are 34.6" x 12.5". I'll be seeing how it goes. As is I have maybe less than an inch at full stuff with my 285s.

Obviously,
I meant not doing the BMC that you mentioned. It may not be required. In the end it will probably be needed, but there is slight chance they would clear without it.

Most 35x12.5... go over in both directions. Most 315s are well under, but it totally depends on the tire.

35's / 315's are so cliché. I want to see 37's.

That'd be nice too but it's still my daily for the most part. Plus, I think that at 37" it's starting to be too much for the ifs. I know a guy on Toyota120 is stuffing 37s on his and is doing a lot of cutting to the fender frames and into the front rear fender wells. I don't feel like getting that involved right now plus my regear wouldn't be up to par for 37s.

Ok. I'll just be satisfied with some pictures... at some point...

Just thought this was a nice idea for a picture.

How's it goin with the tires?
I chickened out and went with 295's. ;)

I'll be putting them on in a couple of weeks I think. I'm going to be getting a new set of wheels for them first. A couple of my wheels have chunks taken out of the lips and are close to not holding air because of that.

What wheels are you thinking of getting ?

I think I'm going with those wheels as well when time comes

I'm going with the Countersteers again. I like the Six Shooter a lot but I feel those spokes would get eaten up for how and where we wheel. I like how the Countersteers are set back and flat inside the lip.
