I was thinking about this post today while I was sitting in my 4Runner so I remembered to take a pic of the center console update I made.
I used to have the vinyl on top but it had dried and cracked and was very uncomfortable for my elbow.
I peeled off the old vinyl, cut the new placemat to size, applied some industrial strength liquid cement on it and put a dictionary on it to dry. Then tucked the excess under and reattached the plastic hinge piece.
I think it turned out pretty good--and much more comfortable.
I already had the liquid cement so all in all, this project cost me ~$5.
