Checked my cabin air filter.....u gotta be kidding me!

The air inlet on my 4runner is under the hood,and it's covered with a plastic grill.
If this is the same air intake, i don't find an opening needing a wire mouse guard.
Am i missing something?

there is quick mode to prevent rodents entering...get fine wire mesh/guaze and cover the air intake area/port ..its the area where the hhod meets the windscreen,
search around pics of the mod is on the thread.

some1 talked abt pouring cayenne pepper or moth balls there, that mice/rats dont like them

You have to remove the plastic cowl that is just below the windshield. You have to remove the wiper arms to get it off. You will find the fresh air intake on the passenger side. Cover it with wire mesh like the prior poster did. Do a search on this issue, there are several posts with pics.

This past weekend I dropped the glove box to check the cabin air filter and found this....wtf! Somehow the little basturds (mice) have be gaining access to the filter and having a field day. No damage to the engine bay, wiring or passenger foot well, they just seem to enjoy sitting on top of the filter and eating seeds. I have ordered a new filter....any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again? :rant:

I cannot sleep, I woke up having a bad dream about that picture of that air filter. only kidding. Hope you get it cleaned out.

Thanks for making it clear where it is,man that sure seems like a lot of work to fix something that Toyota should have known could happen, and had it taken care of in their Design and Engineering.

I change mine out every 6 months, and it don't look anything like the photos here! You guys should set a reminder on your smart phones to help you remember to change out the cabin air filter. Bought my filter on Amazon for $7.00 and it looks just like the OEM filter. If you do buy them on amazon, buy as many as you can, that way you can change them out when needed.

Dude, i found a family of dead baby mice in mine. The amount of dry-heaving swearing and bleaching was high. ended up taking the blower motor out and cleaning it. Then shop vac all of the vents. This was 6 months ago. IM STILL PISSED

All I found in mine was a blue mechanics rag. But I broke the glove box damper reassembling the glove box. I bought the filter at Autozone and a new glove box damper for about $15 from an on line Toyota dealer.

My earlier 4Runners don't have cabin filters.

Wasn't there a problem a few years ago with some vehicles where the manufacturers were using a soy based insulation that actually attracted rodents to the vehicles?

I use an app to track that - Wunderlist. Comes in handy for all sorts of time-based tasks around the house.

I just ordered my filter. I change it every year before I start using the A/C in the summer.

Found that mice were eating nuts on top of my filter too. Hopefully the gutter guard installed over the fresh air vent will stop them.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and story! Makes me want to go and change my filter right now!!! Filters are really cheap on e-bay and amazon compared to the auto part stores. There are so inexpensive, I buy several at time so I have good stock of them.
