Wow, so much for those Jeep commercials emphasizing quality etc....

I wonder where the JGC fans are on this forum?? Maybe they are currently waiting in line at the local Jeep dealerships for their new engine....

Mexico...Alabama...two manufacturing places that i will never buy a car from! Wouldn't it suck to have a brand new vehicle and have your engine taken out and replace???!!! I would NOT be a happy camper!!

I agree. As soon as the new motor is put in, I'd trade it in.

And unlike at the factory, this engine replacement with be done by your local service men, who i am sure don't replace engines all that often. I imagine that there will be lots of "check engine" light going on after the repairs....

Just one more example, proof positive, of why I will never buy domestic again. Toyota just has higher quality standards all the way around.

Exactly. I know several dealer techs. They hate doing engine swaps - especially on new cars. Many times it is the first time they've worked on that particular model. Once the motor is swapped, there are bound to be other problems. When you think of all the systems that need to be disconnected and hooked up to the new engine, the margin for error is high. You can most likely expect problems down the road.

I agree with you when it comes to Chrysler...and maybe GM. However, Ford/Lincoln are up there with Toyota. And even GM has shown signs of vast improvement.

Does this engine swap info get into the CarFax report?? I think that this will affect resale value. For example, in the future, if i look up the service record of a 2012 Jeep GC that i was considering and sees an engine swap done, i will run away as far as possible from that car, even if it was done under a recall.

FWIW Thai, there are many Mercedes Benz vehicles built in Alabama (M class and R class I believe) and their manufacturing plant is one of the best around. I have a fried that quality checks all the welds on the m class uni-body, pretty cool job really.

Yeah, i know that MB makes cars in Alabama...thus, my comment! :moping: Yeah, i hope that they have improved in recent years...but, when i was shopping for MB back in 2004, the M-class was a joke in quality...it was really bad!! Although the newer M-class have improve at least when i touch and play around in it, their quality ratings have not been spectacular either.

The 04 ML was a total piece of junk, I agree.

The 06+ was not amazing... but the new 2012 W166 ML is awful nice so far.

yeah, i can tell!! Mercedes has really stepped up their game to recover their past reputation. I think that the recent JD Powers reflect this...MB made a huge jump up. When my Prius dies, my brother (who is very happy with his GLK350) is pushing me to buy the upcoming GLK diesel (2013?). I am using my brother's GLK to see how far they have come with DURABILITY.

BTW, ChildrenOfBodom, what have you heard about GLK Diesel...when will it get to us???

I heard great things of the I think it's M class diesel, talked to a few owners they said overall like 28-29mpg.
