Classics Go To Moab III

I'll see how it goes the first day or two. when we split up, I might head out with you guys doing the tougher stuff even if I have to take some bypasses... I want some good pictures!

Here are some others I'd like to do:
Top of the World
Bartlett Overlook
Kane Creek
Strike Ravine

If we're really feeling confident:
Poison Spider Mesa (and the rest of the Trifecta if we're feeling stupid )
Flat Iron Mesa


A lot of these trails can be easily done in 4 hrs. With early starts, we could run 2 per day

My understanding is those all have bypasses on the hard stuff too. In which case I'd probably be down. I will specifically bring tools to pull off my bumper covers if I find it necessary. Shouldn't be hard.

Transfer case showed up yesterday, going in this weekend.

It's a ZJ actually, so it's not quite as fat. May still throw together some sliders. I'll just have to pull off the rocker covers and hope it's not too bad down there (rust etc). I can always paint I guess.

I'd like to be pulling out of camp by 8am...starting the trail, at the latest, 9am. But I'm one of those lucky ones who can't sleep past 6am. What I want to avoid is sitting in camp for 2-3 hours wasting valuable vacation time...

If we run Sevenmile quickly without stopping at the overlooks, we could easily finish in 3hrs. I'd prefer to stop and enjoy the scenery so expect 4 hrs.

After finishing the trail, we can have lunch and discuss what we want to run in the afternoon.

How early? If we're going to try to fit in two solid trails a day (which sounds great to me) we'll want to be at the trailhead by nine.

Ugh I don't know. I'll ask. I technically don't have time off yet so no pay for three days. We have another tech to lighten the load though. I really don't want to leave at 4am to get there.

How late do you work? It's only a four hour drive from SLC, if you wanna come down the night before after you get off work we'll definitely keep a campfire going for you.

Leaving SLC at 4am sounds like a pile of suck.

Just in case anybody is still on the fence, here's the trails we're tentatively planning on hitting -

Thursday: Sevenmile Rim, maybe Poison Spider Mesa? maybe Bartlett Overlook?
Friday: Strike Ravine, then BFE or Flat Iron Mesa
Saturday: Cliffhanger, Kane Creek
Sunday: Hells Revenge/Fins and Things

Those trails on Friday are pretty tough. Since Friday is when pretty much everyone will be there (many with stock rigs...), should we have a plan B? Something like Gemini Bridges/Top of the World?

Gemini bridges is a dirt road, not a trail......just sayin. I won't back down to strike ravine so count me in for that one as long as I can make it down although it's looking like I'll be there mainly for Saturday/Sunday now.

The problem I see with this is the bigger the group the longer it takes to "coax" everyone through. What if we swap the Thursday trails with the Friday trails and have the smaller group hit Strike Ravine and the bigger hit Sevenmile Pass. Really I'm down for either trail. I won't be there until Thursday night but I've already ran Strike and Sevenmile is on my wish list.

Got ur message KV. As far as which trails, I'm up for whatever u guys think a stock RNR with a rear locker and 33s can handle. I don't want to hold up the group. That and I got a 750 mile drive home! I got my Spartan in with the 4.88 third I got off CL. I'm in the process of swapping out my front axle with a factory 4.88 I pulled out of a '93 at the pick-a-part. So far I'm at $275 for the Spartan, $120 for the CL 4.88 8" 3rd, and $115 for the '93 4.88 IFS. Not too shabby... :boink:

33s and a locker will put you right in the middle of the pack, in terms of how built your truck is. I don't think you'll need to worry about holding anybody up.

A buddy of mine and I led one of the Cliff Hanger runs year before last at Cruise Moab and we had a brand new Tacoma without sliders in the group and got him through without so much as a scratch (and Cliff Hanger is a b!tch).......so with good spotting someone without sliders should be OK.
