Just a couple days until go-time!
Just a reminder to bring about $37 a head for the campground. I know that some of you aren't staying the full four nights, but it's just $35, and we have to pay for a full group for the full four nights or we don't get the group rate. It's wonky I know, but much easier than trying to figure out who has to pay more and who pays less based on which nights everybody is showing up.
If you're not staying the whole time, we'll exempt you from buying firewood, or buy you dinner or something.

My runner is still at the "shop", at 246k miles its never had the timing chain or guides replaced. Pieces of the longer guide were in the oil pan. The chain is in great shape, so my bud is replacing the guides, tensioner, the aluminum cover and waterpump while it's all apart. Hope to have it back in time!

So, not to second-guess your buddy, but I would never go to all the effort of tearing down the front end and then not replace the chain, even if it measured in spec. Especially a 250k chain that's been rattling around loose because the guides broke. These are interference engines - if that chain breaks, your valves that are open at the time get a sudden and rude introduction to the pistons underneath them, and that pretty much grenades the entire motor.

Even if there's no bad wear marks or anything? I thought same thing initially..
Edited.. after looking at prices of chains I'm like DUH! Of COURSE I'm gonna tell him to get a chain also..LoL just hope the parts store has this stuff in stock..

Right as mentioned above its bad economy. I need to do that sometime on the jeep. $30 for a gear and chain set in Stock down the street.
That right there is why I dropped Toyota. When I NEEDED to do work, I didn't. Because nothing was ever in stock or ridiculously priced.
I'm about ready for the trip. Anyone else?

Hey guys....
Do you have room for one more?
I've been back and forth on how I'm going to get to Moab this year, and I've been working through the logistics of this trip, and I see no reason why I can't make it.
1. The rig is up to date on maintenance, and built to a level that it can handle anything Moab can throw at it (short of the extreme/buggy trails)
2. Wife approval has been granted.
3. I get off work at 9:30am on Thursday, and can be in Moab by 6pm.
4. I don't have to be back at work until Monday.
As long as you guys are good with me coming along, I'd say that I'm 100%. I'd be heading out there solo... no dogs, no Wife, no Kiddo. Just me, the rig, some camping gear, and some beer.
I'll see if I can make a post on the UT forum as well.

Random question but... whats the rule on firearms? Its a national park right? Isnt there something about not allowing them there? I cant remember.

I just joined & made a post w/all my info on the UT forum as well.
RE firearms, most of the trails you'll be on are public lands (BLM, etc). The only trails on National Park lands are the ones that head into Arches, Canyonlands, etc. I didn't see anything on the google doc that will be on national park land.
That being said, if you want to bring one go for it. There is nothing illegal about it afaik. You would have to open carry (unless you have a permit valid in UT), and I would personally check UT gun laws to make sure there are no mag restrictions, etc. Last year at the TW meet, there were several guys running around with pistols on their belts the whole time.

Great to have you along, Nick! We'll look for you Thursday night. I don't know what time we'll get off the trail, so I'll be sure and put up a sign at the group site so you know where to set up.

I dont mind either way. I am a CCW holder. But open or closed carry a hi-point? Good lord. Lol. I dont mind bricks and all but theres a limit. Might hit the range in Price sunday. Just for old times sake.

Oh and just for whatever it's worth, I will be armed 100% of the time. I advise you to read up on weapons in national parks but I'm not to worried about it.

I was going to be there with my wife staying at her friends overlapping the time when you guys are there. Hoping to breakaway for a run or two. Now, I'm going alone and don't have the option of staying at their home. If there's room I'd like to come along. I'll be done working tomorrow but unable to leave until Thursday.
I don't know anything about guns, but my buddy to me to shoot this stuff the other day. That was a ton of fun!
