Cloth vs Leather - for T4R owners with kid(s)?

I live in Florida leather is NOT "sticky" in the summer.... cold in the winter? wouldnt know about this winter thing you speak of but when it get cold I park in the garage

Well if you get cold in Florida then there's a big problem

I go to pompano beach once a year . All we got was 20minutes of rain.


How does - 35 celcius sound to you + the wind factor sometimes. Every thing freezes even your balls ! So imagine leather...

Cloth with seatcovers. I have mine for 6 years and the seats are still look brand new. I did lots of offroading and camping with 2 sons.

Although the "leather" in my SR5 has held up great to my 2yo's abuse, I would go for the TE. I went with an SR5 over a TE to get the leather and still regret it. If you want, you can buy Katskins leather for your TE. It's nicer than the OEM stuff anyway.

I have 2 regrets about my 2011 4runner.
1. Didn't get leather seats
2. Didn't get backup camera and auto dimming rear view camera

Swung by a dealership and did some window shopping earlier. I live in Austin Tx and My GS430 has black leather so I understand the summer struggle. Im equally or more happy in my 144K mi Tacoma w/ cloth though; I'm thinking I'm more set on a TE (Mag Grey, '10-'13 , KDSS, JBL Nav

<if I can find one> ) than I am leather seats that I'll take what I can find and that cloth will suffice with the solutions provided (covers for the rear & seat back when his legs reach ).

When I bought my 3rd gen (tan cloth seats), the rear seats were permanently stained by some blue substance that wouldn't come out. I highly suspect that some blue koolaid or slurppy was splint onto the seat. As the 10-13 TEs have water resistant seats, the fabric may be more durable against spills. Being black will help hide any stains that might develop if not cleaned up in a timely manner. Given the choice, I would pick leather if I still had small ones to haul in the back seat.

The exact reason I went with the TE. For kids, dogs and cargo...the TE cloth is the perfect choice.

Speaking of, yesterday I took some pictures of the tacoma I'm selling land posted it on craigslist at 9:30 last night. Met the first person at lunch today and she cut me a check (to hold until the banks open tomorrow) on the spot!

2014+ No Cloth if you want a Sunroof

Sorry about digging up an old thread, but I have one small interjection...

I haven't been in a car with leather seats since my father's old 1989 Oldsmobile 98' in Mississippi. So, I do not like leather.

However, on the 2015s (possibly the 2014s too), I couldn't get a sunroof and heated seats without getting the faux-leather seats (Softex). So, I ended up with a Trail Premium. I am going to wait till the seat protectors come in from Amazon before I put my 3 year old son in the truck, but I'm actually pleased with it.

...granted, this post is in February. So, there is very little heat in San Antonio right now. I am getting all the windows tinted this weekend.

getting the seat covers for the non heated LE seats is probably the best. I for one cant use seat covers cause it defeats the purpose of the vented feature during the summer which I use a lot.
