When I was looking at a Limited 5TH GEN I WAS SURPRISED IT DID NOT HAVE THE PULL DOWN MOTOR mechanism for the rear door to latch it tight. That helps reduce the possibility of rear latch noise. My folks 4th gen SR5 has that and I really like it. If you had it in a 4th gen and you bought a 5th gen limited and don't, that would really be a bummer!
Toyota bean counters giving less is not good.
I like parts of the 5th gen, but for the price difference would have bought a 4th gen again to maintain the upgrades I am accustomed to in the SR5 that the new limited does not have.

4th gens didn't have the auto up and down on both front windows did it? That was one of the the things lost on at least the early years of the 4th gens so it is a give and take when it comes to cost cutting.
I do like having an extra power outlet and cargo light in my 3rd gen but am suprised it wasn't in the 5th gen.

I like not having the remote fuel door opener, they freeze up after washing in the winter. We all realize Toy is cutting corners to save $$$'s but what I thought was cheap was having to pay for factory floor mats. Should have told 'em to screw and purchased husky weather beaters.

My rear hatch lights illuminate the cargo area just fine for me.
That and a pen light, which I always keep with me, work out fine.

Yes, wished that there was cargo light (like the old 3r gen), plus the current tailgate lights. In the 5th gen, if the tailgate is up, you can't really see inside.

Maybe you should get your eyes checked. This week I opened the tailgate to load some stuff - and there's plenty of light.
I agree with Ryan F... if this is all you have to complain about, you're in pretty good shape.

That was what I was thinking. Those tail gate lights work great, light up the cargo area, and the area behind the truck. No complaints here

olice:uh, try accessing the cargo area through the window (because you have a kayak on top of your 4runner you cant open the hatch), when it is dark out. there is no light. half the time i cant even find the flaslight i have stored back there easily.

I agree with the OP, a cargo light really should be in there.
I put LED's in every interior lamp in the truck. They are great, especially the map lights and the cargo hatch lights.
My wife's '10 CRV has two cargo lights, located on each D pillar, so that they really light up the cargo area.

Totally agree! And even if the existing lights did come on with only the window, if you had a bunch of stuff in there, it would cover them up!
For those of you who say they are happy with their cargo area lighting, I suspect you will change your mind down the road one day...but you have to see the difference side by side. I now have LED strips back there and when they are not on, I feel lost. That being said, I don't necessarily like the "look" of the strips, but they sure are helpful when you are camping with a trunk full of cargo and canoe strapped to the roof.
you can still reach in and turn the lights on the hatch on.

Good point...I didn't think of that. But it still does not solve the issue of what to do when there is bunch of gear covering them up...

In the dark, reaching blindly......plus what if you have equipment, luggage, etc against the gate and can not access the lights? I do agree it needs a cargo light. It is such a small item. My last SUV had one and I did not realize how much it makes a difference until I am without it. Would I not buy the 4R because of it, ha, nope, besides what else would we have to complain about?
