Hey COB, I've been reading through your build thread and you gave me several great ideas. I just finished using SEM paint to black out my entire exterior. I love the difference!

Well, I stumbled across your Crossroads Foreign dismantler thread and now I can't sleep until I call them tomorrow morning.

I live in OC as well, in Dana Point. I bought my truck 2 months ago and I detail all of my mods and maintenance upgrades in my thread. Anyway, I wouldn't mind driving out to Mira Loma one day for a scouting trip just to see what they have, though it sounds like I can call these guys as well. I know you started this thread 2 years ago, so I'm curious if they're still as good, or if their inventory has fallen off? I'm spending money on a couple of other upgrades at this point (Budbuilt Skidplate, tinted windows), but I'll do a round trip gas waster just for the drool factor.

Installed a 90 degree CB Coax adapter as suggested by xskydivingdudex to push the CB back a little more.

First off, I want to say that I'm in the process of reading through your build thread, and it has been an AWESOME read so far! Now I'm beginning to see why you're such a well known and respected guy around here, your rig and the stuff you do and know how to do is astounding!

I wanted to ask, what did you make or buy to fill up the space under your head unit? I too have a smaller head unit and it doesn't take up both of the spaces for the radio, so I'd like to make that into a space that I can put stuff, like receipts or a flashlight, etc... Any tips or links to a how-to to take that panel out?

Hey COB, looking through your build thread I was wondering before you painted your tundra rims were they the stock gunmetal ones or were they silver? They seem to look different in the different pictures. I found both locally and my 4runner is the color as yours and I really liked the look before you painted your rims. Thanks!

SWEET! I thought I'd pull a C.O.B yesterday, and inquire about a Red 1st Gen I've seen sitting in a Plant Nursery parking lot since the winter. Talked to a family member of the owner, who advised that it really wasn't for sale, but if someone were to give them $3000 - $4000, they'd let it go! I was like, FOGETABOUTIT! LOL! The family member agreed that it was drastically over priced, so we just laughed it off.

I'm gonna keep my eye on it, as it's in decent shape, just needs some minor body work. The Undercarriage looks like mine, all greasy and oiled up, which is a plus around here!

Good luck with the build up C.O.B! It will be a fun little project for you!

Haha, PIMP red interior! Dad was actually pretty excited, he likes old Toyota trucks. He hates seeing a junkyard in the driveway though, lol. It's only a junkyard because that truck was moved out of the garage and into the driveway... stupid pile!

Make sure you check the front timing chain cover for wear. The plastic timing chain guides like to break and the chain will wear on the d/s of the cover, there is a coolant passage right in that spot and it will leak the coolant into the oil. You'll end up with some taste chocolate milk!

If the chain has made any contact with the cover I would replace it, it's also a good idea to buy the steel backed timing chain guides while your in there.

Love the advice. I have been looking through lots of 22RE builds and this is the best piece of advice yet. Noted!

I have one of those generic little cubby things underneath my head unit. It doesn't really hold anything still, so I keep a towel folded up in there. Only reason it's not changed yet is because I'd like a double din radio someday.

The panel removal should be simple as pie. Look up instructions on how to get to the radio and it should be really clear and straightforward once you get that far. Are there any links or pics of this panel?

Those wheels came in so many different colors. My original wheel color is specifically from Tundra Stepside trucks. Sequoias and Tundras have silver and hyper silver, and a very rare (but so appealing) gunmetal.












Allllrighty then... so, I'm sorry to inform you guys that I haven't touched my first gen at all since the last update. The Probe was my original project and the 1st gen came in very unexpectedly. It'll be some time until I can get to it. My first plans after making it mechanically sound: Paint top black with SEM trim black, deep clean interior, buff paint, change tires, paint wheels.

It's a real shame that Southern California... moreso southern Orange County... isn't an area with huge farm-sized lots. I'd love a huge farm or something to store my toys, but unfortunately, donor truck has to go. I've pretty much stripped it clean, but it was still nice having two 3rd gens. Gotta clean up the image of my house, starting to look like Santa Ana over here (POS truck doesn't help).

Now that the Probe's doing my daily drive, the 3rd gen can finally take a break while it waits for installation of the new Shrockworks front bumper, an oil change, 1st gen roll bar, fuel pump, injectors, piggyback, CV axles, skid, and body lift. I've been putting these things off as the Probe and 1st gen have sucked my wallet dry. In due time, though, the thing hasn't been garaged in years. CB antenna quick disconnect finally being put to use. Driving the Probe all day really makes driving the 4Runner special.

You're making me miss my old Probe. Mine was red and I had a friend that had a brown one. We use to zip up and down H-1 on Oahu. The joke was that he was a proctologist and drove a brown Probe...

4. Dam you forgetting the SW bumper, I want that too, but its can't justify it. I want that custom roof rack too and install fat LED bar, but again its a want.

5. I want to do a BL too, just for looks. When are you doing yours and how hard is the install?

1. The car cover was actually from a Toyota dealer back in 2001. My friend David got it with his 01 Sport Edition and sold it to me a few years ago. Only 4Runner specific cover Ive ever seen.
2. What did you get? I want to see!
3. Pasadena is still reasonable. Weren't you planning to move much further away? I'm definitely down for some trail runs when you're all settled in.

5. I'm going to do mine when the Shrockworks arrives. It looks really easy, but my rock sliders are just about perfect length to ruin all hope hahaha. I'm going to have to find a way to get around them, might even have to cut them off completely.

Haha, yeah, might be crazy, but I'm pretty sure I can do it and make it look good. It's been a dream-project of mine and I'm pretty excited to do it.

I think I can pull off the whole car with 10-15 cans. I'll take my time. If there's one thing I'll never waste my money on... it's a Maaco paint job, haha.

Man, I completely agree. This thing wouldn't need much to look gorgeous. I couldn't screw up this truck and feel good about myself. Long term plans... well, IFS automatic... hmm... I think the profit margin will be worth selling it. I have to make sure it goes to a good worthy home. Too many people asking about buying it that will just run it back into the ground.

I'll definitely make it look nice beforehand, that top needs to be black ASAP...
