COB's 4Runner Timeline (Pic Heavy)

As a fellow 2WD driver owner, COB continue what you have been doing to your 4Runner. Many of the mods done to your vehicle already, are something I appreciate and call classy but functional.

I wanted to ask though, I am looking at putting either a E-locker or air locker in my rear to make it a little more capable. But the price is what is shying me away. What is your rear setup and what are your experiences with it off-roading along with road behavior?

man, rain hasn't happened forever... I'm sad about the cleanup though

how'd you get that rubber piece that lays on top of the rear bumper so shinny? What ever you did, can you give me some info. My eyes are sore from looking at my dull gray looking rubber piece. It catches my eyes everytime I'm in the rear of the 4runner.

I used Meguiar's Back to Black, and it works... but it's kinda a PITA. I instead went to Meguiar's Hyper Dressing instead. I just use it every other wash.

Haha thanks man. I do plan a 4WD swap someday.. but as of now:

I have Detroit Posi in the back. It's a 300 upgrade that slips into any open diff if you know how to work on them. I bought mine already built into a carrier with 4.56's. Posi is always engaged. it basically applies power to the wheel with the least traction and you spin both wheels at all times pretty much, but not completely locked. they can spin different speeds so they're fantastic for cornering and racing. It's amazing on freeway on ramps and acceleration around corners. Off road is a dream in comparison to before.

Lol... that sound makes me cringe. That's what it sounds like when the exhaust is cold, the water made it cool and then it sounded like a fartcan honda hahaha.

But hey, it's kinda cool cuz it's not the stupid valve clanky noise.

I've done enough in my day and never had any problems with ye olde K&N. I think the people who usually complain are the people who are stupid enough to dip their whole front end without a breather box or snorkel.

Speaking of the K&N, I got in a year and a half ago and I finally decided to clean it today. Looks good.

Also installed some Wade In Channel Vent Visors today. They're kind of hard to get used to, but I am sure I will be soon..

Anyone else experience the whole window jam protection issue with these things? It's a little annoying, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't want to strain the window motor either, thinking about filing the vent visors down a bit so they're thinner and won't mess with the window as much.

Pics later, Cobra CB on it's way! Debating on buying a used 3rd Gen BajaRack... too.

lol nice dude... ya i thought bout getting vent visors at one point but started to weigh out the pros and cons and if i really needed them and the problem of it not sealing correctly and possibly causing more stress on the motor was a main concern...

the vent visors I got attach to the outside of the door, not the window jam. They're made by Vent Shade and haven't had a problem with them the whole year I'd had them.

I'll see how they go and if the trimming works. I only got them because rain coming in through the window while it's partially open gets annoying.

The CB is a Cobra 19 DX IV.

I saw those, both in person and online, and I don't like them. Sorry to driffter33, I didn't like how they mount outside.

I got mine from eBay.

Fits great but you have to cut out the plastic on the inside where the ashtray mounted.

Sweet, dude.

It's pretty easy. You'll be just fine if you know how to take apart the center cluster, really, it's not hard.

Tools I used:

Small Air saw (to cut plastic of where the old ashtray mount was, but left enough if I want to mount it again someday)

Philips Screwdriver to remove the old metal ashtray mount.

I used electrical tape in the back of the cluster (not visible at all) to hold it in place, I'd rather not risk the possibility of damaging internal parts of the CB with self tapping screws.

It is a little hard to see the number on the screen considering the angle you're at, but it's not like you'll really use it that much after getting to your channel.

I am gonna get a magnet mount, I don't want to mount it permanently since i don't think I will use it often enough.
