Now that the front bumper got smacked by a van, I’m over this. The 4Runner front end has been sitting in storage for a while, let’s get it over with. Just my luck that the damn gardener stepped on the driver fender too.

Stripped down

Core support removed, original fenders and dented bumper all removed

4Runner core support cleaned up and ready for mockup

Test fit went well, core support installed with 4runner headlights

4Runner fenders fitted

4Runner grill and clear corner lights installed

4Runner bumper painted. It was too cold out so the paint didn’t come out too well. Gonna have to repaint it.

Upon driving the truck and immediately realizing how shitty the OEM 2nd gen 4Runner headlights are, I bought some brighter bulbs, Sylvania Silverstar Ultra. Still could not see a damn thing. They are ON in this image. Holy shit.

At night. I had to drive with the high beams on just to see. I’ve heard these housings were bad, but DAMN.

Well, screw this. LED headlamps it is. $30 on Amazon for these Rimthin LED’s.

Compared to the Silverstar Ultras. Night and day difference.

LED corner lights.

LED Reverse and tail lights

Misc pics + with my friend Ed’s Tacoma, which we also 4Runner swapped with a 3rd gen

Some nice truck loads

First time hauling a motorcycle

Broken tailgate handle replaced with metal handle

Scored a set of Continental Extreme Contact 225/50/16

Little more scenic view, 4runner swapped trucks

New dash designs dash cover, black carpet, needs more velcro but a good fit

New LED bulbs for map lights

Replacement upper radiator hose and t-bolt clamps. Cleaned up battery clamps. New exhaust manifold gasket (lower donut gaskets)

Replacement speedometer gear 33403-19235, 10/35 tooth

Versus original 11/31 tooth

Installed into VSS with new O-ring. Speedo nearly perfect now for the 225/50/16 on the 4Runner SR5 cluster.

Ed gave me his old Snugtop tonneau cover which I plan to respray and install later on.

New idler pulley bearing for power steering

Koyo 6204RS

Remove clip and press out

Original bearing removed

New bearing in place ready to press in

32mm socket worked great

Clip reinstalled and ready to go back in the truck

Decided to ditch the 50lb+ Fey diamond step bumper

Had to cut off the plate hardware

Plate installed with new hardware direct to bed

Changed the exhaust manifold gaskets and of course one of the nuts decided it wanted nothing to do with coming off. I ended up having to cut the stud off and then installed a Nickson clamp-a-stud because I just don’t feel like pulling out the manifold. It’ll probably get changed out for an LCE street header someday so this’ll do til then. This clamp is a pretty cool design and it was actually really easy to use and install. No leaks and worked great.

Next up is a Wolfbox dash cam setup, got it on sale for $58 on eBay

My friend Ed gave me a license plate mount to fit the rear camera, I modified it a bit and then drilled a hole into the camera mount to mount it direct. Then I used a bolt from a MK3 Supra gauge cluster to tie it all together. I’ll get it installed and post pics later.

Wires for wolf box fished through headliner

Mirror finished and installed

Rear camera installed

Acquired a new AISIN CKT-022 clutch kit, free! Someone bought it for a 3.0 4Runner and didn’t realize it was a 22R-E kit.

I’ve had a lightweight LCE flywheel sitting around for a few years, test fit the pressure plate and it fits perfect.

Back in 2021, I had acquired the 4Runner front end from a friend of mine, but my gardener thought the driver fender looked like a mighty fine step.

I wanted to do the front end swap pretty badly so I ended up pulling out the giant dent as best as I could, but it was still pretty messed up. Finally saw a white 4Runner pop up on the Pick Your Part app and dropped by to grab a driver fender.

I couldn’t wait and installed it the same day.

Finally tracked down the owner of my favorite mini truck, got to talking and he showed me some tricks on how to mount a set of 4Runner headlights on an early 4Runner/pickup core support. I plan to do the same on my 90 2-door. He sold me a 92-95 4Runner grill for a killer price.

Picked up a center console from a 95 4Runner that did not have rear heat. Here's the parts truck

Much more space inside. Here it is compared to the previous console from a rear heat equipped vehicle.
