Color Matching Grill: DYI???

So Im looking into color matching my grille
My truck is natural white with silver cladding, so im just thinking about going with the natural white.
My question is, what do you all think about sanding it, and painting it myself with a color match aerosol or should i invest the extra cash on a professional job???
Ive searched in the various threads about color matching, but are all DIY
Opinions???? Advice??? Thanks

Depends on how much you want to spend...

I know if I were to do it, I'd be getting a professsional to do it.

If I did it and it was off at all, I'd hate it. And look at it every day.

My advice would be to get a vehicle part on the cheap, do it yourself, and if you are happy with the results then go for it. If not, then get a few quotes from reputable body shops and go from there. Reputable is the key.

I have had several vehicles painted in the past. You can usually offer to pay in cash and even remove the body parts to reduce the cost. To reduce the cost even more you can prep the parts for them so all they have to do is paint. The less amount of time they have to spend on the part the less you end up paying for a professional quality paint job.

Truth be told though painting is a skill I would like to learn because I could save a lot of money if I were doing it myself and the paint is one of those things that always takes a hit over time. Plus I just like working on my own vehicles. The problem is I don't have a paint proper paint booth or quality equipment to do it myself and while rattle can jobs can be done very well it takes a skilled hand to pull it off. So at the end of the day I usually let the pros do the work.

Check out CL in your area. There are plenty of body shop guys who do side work, and do a good job on the cheap. Buy a grille from partsgeek.com in primed black, have them paint it. Then when it's done, install that one and sell your stock one.

Natural white is a single stage paint, so no actual clear coat. If you take your time, sand and prime, it really wouldn't be that hard to do it yourself. I do a lot of grilles, and you can get some pretty good results from spray paint if you take your time.
