I am very sorry for what happened to the previous thread about this, Any bickering in this thread will result in the post being deleted.

Any constructive posts from last thread please feel free to repost them.

Which I knew was going to turn into a whoever is better offroad wins! and I was right!

I thought of this ingenious challenge to see once and for all which stock vehicles are the most capable off road! I mean, ultimately we know that all those "comforts" that the 5th Gen owners talk about really make them weak anyways, and their seats wont be as comfortable when they are upside down in a ditch trying to follow a 3rd gen 4runner thru the mountains!

So, the challenge is just like H-O-R-S-E but with 4-Runner... you get the idea, best 2 out of 3 wins...
For those that dont remember, when you played horse versions of anything, the one person does something with their rig and the next person has to emulate it or it gets a 4... and so on so forth.

Anywhere from 4-7 different stock 3rd and 5th gen vehicles and drivers can make up a team.

We do this in Colorado, the true test of a man and vehicle are found in the Rocky mountains! Plus, Im here and plan on video taping this feat so that all can see that cool little expensive toys dont mean squat on the mountain...

there must be stock 3rd gens with or without lockers participating and all types of 5th gens so NO ONE can use that as an excuse,

the fact that we run several different drivers and rigs will mean that no One vehicle or driver decides the outcome. eliminates those drivers with "Mad Skillz"

any takers??
any other rules that you can think of?
how about any trails that have lots of obstacles to work with??

I guess we could allow a team of 4th gens...

Ultimately, though, I think this will prove to "little baby brother" that Big Brother still wears the pants in the family!

The month of May is tough for me. My wife gave up her vacation to Yellowstone so we could buy the 4Runner without having to finance it. To ease my guilt and keep her from going crazy at work, we've planned to explore the Pacific side of the Olympic mountains and the coastline along the Strait of Juan De Fuca during May.

Hopefully, I'm not the only 5th Gen TE owner willing to consider doing this. My lack of experience could potentially be a liability.:p
 
I just want to see a 5th gen in action up close and don't really care who's a winner or not plus getting to put faces with the 4Runners this board has aquired over the last year would be nice.
 
as long as it doesn't turn into a d-i-c-k swinging match i may and try to make it out there, if it's just guys and trucks drinking beers and having fun, i'm more then game, your just not going to catch me being the one going first over the widow maker, lol

from what Ive seen from the vids and what Ive been told, you prob want Ric on the outside of your car to spot for ya!! lol

oooh, good question, we prob need spotters,

but the better the spotter the more likely the driver and vehicle have of making the obstacle...

spotters could be a wildcard, we may have to figure out how to neutralize their impact on the challenge while also keeping people from rolling, tipping, etc.

Whatever. Unless you can find other 5th Gen owners, this may not be happening at all. I can't make plans unless I have a date and I can't commit to anything in May right now. And if I'm the only 5th Gen to show up, no one is going to consider it a real test due to my relative inexperience.

Unless I kick all your asses on the trail, in which case I will be a GOD! :jk:

Because i wrote up top no bickering and i interpret this as attempt to start a fight, I am going to ask you politely to please no longer respond in this thread, The other thread was closed for this immature bickering, if you have a confrontation with someone, please take it up in anywhere else but this thread. Ok, to clarify something, not all the 5th gens have to be Trail Edition, and not all the 3rd gens have to be locked. The point was to have a few of each so that no one uses the excuse that "IF, our team had the Locker... then... blah, blah, blah" or vice versa...

I think thats lead to some 5th gen owners thinking they shouldnt want to participate...

John, I think one other 3rd Genner has said they are on the team, can you edit them in to the first post??

Ric, I saw you wanted to be on the recovery team, maybe you could do that and put together a crack team of impartial 4th gen owners to spot??

LOL cuz we know that your rigs cant keep up anyways!! :cheers: LOL

:lmao: that was great,, now Im ready to :driving: Id still like to either do the Recovery team and/or scout out the trails do a pre-run :reddance:
BTW, I know of a couple great spotters that might be interested
 
Why don't we set a date: How about Saturday, June 19th. Then we can start getting other details together and SeattleMike can start planning his trip :bluejump:

And we need a name like:

1st annual 4Runner multi generation durability challenge and bbq extravaganza!!

ok that's a little long, I'm sure someone else has a better idea...

No good, her birthday is on June 24th. However, we might be able to work May the 22nd, as she said "mountains are mountains, as long as we are going some where" and her vacation runs from May 15th thru the 23rd. Any Holiday Inn Express motels in the area?

If they are good, I'm sure enough locals can be found for other things: finding the trails, recovery team, BBQ, spotters, camera folks, people to stand around watching and picking their nose.
