Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

Hey this is actually my first post on here,Haven't even picked up my 4runner yet, getting it tomorrow. I,ve been stalking this forum for over a year and finally get to be a part of it super excited to start modding! Anyways i have a question about the fj springs and billy combo, i would like to run this set up but i notice a lot of you still use spacers in the rear is that a must or just preference depending on what set up or lift you want? I would like to achieve a lift similar to the fj springs with the 2/1 cornfed spacer like PharmSCRunner's on page 1 but figured for a couple hundred bucks difference would be better to just do 5100s all the way around, and would would like to leave Xreas intact for now. Thanks

If you do the Bilstein's at 1.75 or 2.5, with FJ springs, you will probably need a spacer in the rear. Definitely for 2.5, debatable/variable for 1.75 because some like to maintain a little rake and the springs can provide inconsistent lift.

i got slightly confused reading your last sentence... i think you know that you can't keep xreas while replacing shocks?

Ok thanks appreciate it , and no i did not know that thanks. So maybe ill just stick with the 2/1 spacer with the fj spring for now, sorry kinda new to the 4x4 world but thanks

No prob. The set-up you've mentioned here will be fine.

HOWEVER, just a last-minute pitch for going with the Bilsteins that I like to make to people as someone who was going to do a spacer lift and decided not to.

With Bilstein 5100s and FJ springs, everyone has been very happy with the ride, even those who come from XREAS. Your XREAS is going to go sometime, and you probably won't replace it with XREAS because it's very expensive. Since the Bilsteins can last the life of the truck, it's worth considering the swap now. Especially if you're paying for any labor (do it now and be done vs. doing spacers then doing a swap). My truck (XREAS) only has 60k but I'm just replacing now.

I suggest a spacer even with 1.75". Something like a 0.75"-1". In mine w/o spacers in the rear when you measure at the board it is slightly higher at front. I bought a Cornfed 3/4" spacers to install with airbags. Not done it yet, but will soon.

Thats a very good point i'm definitely going to take this into consideration especial since the truck i'm picking up is already in the high 60k miles range. I'm just working on getting a set of fj springs off of a member over on the cruiser forum right now so hopefully ill be posting some pics in here in the near future.

Will these fit a 2004 4runner 2WD?

front and rear springs, front Bilstein struts, and rear Bilstein shocks off of a 2013 FJ with factory OFF-ROAD package.

How do you like the ride?

Great info and good write up. I did the fj springs and bilsteins with the 1/4 spacer on my 07 V6 and love it.

I would love to do this mod to my truck. I have the same truck as yours. Is there a difference in the ride experience? Do you feel the height gain? any issues with alignment? ..and finally how much did you spend?

Would love to do this when ready for my next set of tires.

Thank you, and your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Don't mean to take over the boards (just posted in lift @ tire sticky), but mine is an FJ Springs lift so figured it might help someone.

I don't think my measurements were super accurate so pictures will have to do. I did get more out of the front than I expected.

2013 4x4 FJ springs, Bilstein 5100 (1.75 front), 1" cornfed rear, bumped up tires to 265/70/17.

Will this setup from a 2013 FJ fit my 04 4Runner?

Any year FJ coils will fit the OEM 4runner shocks (or aftermarkets made for the 4runner). If you want to use FJ shocks, only 2007-2009's are a direct swap. 2010 and newer require slight modification to fit. On the front, you must grind down the lower shock mount, and on the rear, you have to enlarge the upper stem mounting hole.

Thank you I read about the modifications but wanted to double check. This setup has 28 miles in them and cheap.

Yesterday, I installed the same setup as above with a Toytec Spacer on the front. It rides great. You will love it.

So I just bought the setup for 200 bucks. I hope I made a good buy. I believe I did. This will hold me over until I can do what I want to the Runner. The stock suspension is horrible. The rear feels like there's a broken shock. Doubt there really is but it bottoms out really bad.

So another question. The runner has 114k on the ODO. I was thinking I need to replace the sway bar rubbers. What else should I look at replacing as long as I'm under there?

The swaybar bushings are the main thing. I'd inspect the ball joints and control arm bushings as well.
