Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

First off, thanks everyone for contributing to this awesome thread, I've done as much reading as possible to get informed!

Just wanted to run my potential setup by you experts and see if I am on the right path here.

Setup:
2006 4x4 V8 Limited with XREAS
Stock 265/60/18 Michelin Tires
Will eventually be upgrading tires to BFG TA KO 265/65/18

Used mostly for driving to/from work, with light overland adventures a few times a year. I'm looking to lift the ride height up for better clearance and like the level look of fulltiltboogie 's ride below.

Intended purchase:
Bilstein 5100's
FJ Cruiser 4x4 Springs

Now here is my question:
If I set the shocks at 0.85 with NO spacer, will the truck be level like below?
OR
Should I set the shocks at 1.75 with NO spacer to achieve the look below?

Thanks guys :decision:

If you set your shocks at .85 w/o spacers it'll sit lower than mine up front.
Mine are set at 1.75
My truck sits pretty level with about a half tank. A full tank and some groceries it's noticeably lower in the rear. I'm actually going up to the 2.5 setting and spacers in the rear. I get a little rubbing at the front bumper when I'm reversing and turning at the same time. My set up has about 1800 miles and I may be willing to part with it so, I can upgrade to a Camburg kit.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Shoot me a PM with a price for the kit, I may be able to take it off your hands =)

Are the Bilstein 5100's only adjustable in the front? Can they not be adjusted in the rear to eliminate the spacer?

Only the fronts are adjustable. The front uses a coil over where the coil mounts to the shock, and by changing the position of the lower mount it provides lift. The rear uses separate shocks/coils so there's no way for the shocks to provide lift.

I like a little bit of forward\positive rake but I don't think FJ coils and 5100's set to the .85 setting will yield enough lift for me so I'm considering doing the front at 1.75 and putting a 1" spacer in the rear?

I'm thinking that should give me ~ a 2.5/1.5 lift?

Any thoughts on that?

EDIT: Nevermind found my answers. Going with no spacer for now until I get tires.

I too, after reading more, have this same question.

Looks like im set on putting the fronts at 1.75, but should I do the 1" spacer in the rear? Does anyone have pics of these setups? 1.75 front, no spacer/1" spacer rear?

Thanks everyone!

I installed Moog FJ springs (front only) and 5100's set at .85 yesterday using the no spring compressor method.

Just thought I would let folks know how my install went. I didn't have to loosen the lower A arm adjusters and could flex enough to set everything in without any problems. If I would have went up one more notch on the 5100's, I don't think I could have installed the lower shock bolt though. I had to remove the sway bar or at least it made it easier with it out of the way. I did not remove the tie-rods. I found that as soon as I had the pin through the upper mount you need to get the nut on just to hold everything in place while you get someone to pry the lower A arm down so the shock bolt can be inserted.

My changes netted me about 3" of lift. But I'm hoping it settles out closer to 2" over time.

Edit:
Well that didn't take long. After a day of bouncing around some dirt roads and the pot hole ridden hard roads I'm right at 2" both sides. The ride is much improved on the street and dirt. Before I was hitting the bump stops in the front and that didn't happen once today. I was worried that keeping the stock rear springs might cause me a problem, but for now everthing is fine.

Installed the Moog FJ springs front and rear. Bilstein 5100s with the fronts set at .85". Absolutely feels great. I can't wait to start the towing season with this combo.

I previously had a cornfed 3/2 with xreas.

I have the auto leveling rear air bags on my limited, I read the height is somewhat adjustable. I don't see others talking about this so I wondered if I would still be able to retain the auto leveling system when I go to remove my XREAS system and replace all of it with the Moog FJ coils and Bilstein 5100's?

Great thread and some great looking 4 Runners around here!

I recently also put the 5100 combo kit on. I was rubbing with the stock setup whenever I turned hard or backed out of the driveway. I set the 5100's at 1.75" with stock springs. It was too high for my tastes. You could really tell by comparing the running board front and rear especially if you were loaded or had a full tank of gas.

I followed this up by installing some brand new gifted OME 885's on the 5100's in front while dropping to 0" setting on the struts. This is not advisable without doing anything to the back setup. In addition to driving a recliner I began to show leaking on my Balljoints and had to run a negative camber as the tires wouldn't fit into normal specs. I finally settled on 0.85" and stock spring for now. Leveled out perfectly. Handles nice and feels great.

I just ordered the parts to do this very setup, Bilstein 5100s and fjcs all around 1.75" setting up front and a 1" cornfed spacer In rear. Probably won't get it installed for a month or so but ill post pics when I do. Pm me if you don't see it on here come mid April....

If you look at the suspension FAQ sticky, there is a PDF at the bottom of the first post that shows the adjustment procedure. I wouldn't adjust over 1" in the rear, otherwise it gets extremely stiff. If you plan to keep the air suspension, you only need front coils. Also, I would suggest the bilstein HD rear shocks, they are stock length but same specs as the 5100s. Longer rear shocks could cause issues with the rear air bags.

Posted this earlier, but those who are wondering bilsteins at 1.75 with fj cruiser springs and bilsteins and fj in rear will DEFINITELY level out the front end and raise the rear. Rides very well. Next on the list 18's and plasti dip as much as i can.

i dont know if ive overlooked it, will the REAR coils from a 2010-2014 FJ swap over to the 4th gen without the need for modification? what amount of lift if gained from the rear? about 1/2" ?

^^ yes the springs themselves will work. Front struts will not without some sort of physical modifcation to them. I would say i gained about 1 to 1 1/2" in the rear
