Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

If you are swapping springs only, any year 07+ springs will work. If you want to use the FJ shocks, only 07-09 shocks are a direct swap. 2010+ will still fit but require minor modifications.

Oh ok, I am going with the Bilstein 5100s and 2012 4x4 fj springs for my 03 Ltd. Just wanted to make sure the springs for 2012 will work with my setup that I am about to install.

What is the performance like with the FJ springs?
Im wanting to grab a setup from a 2013 with less than 5k on them. Have planned on swapping out the shocks for 5100s and adding a daystar 1.5 rear.

I only want a small lift, about 2.5 or so, but want it to handle some minor trails without issue. Looking for more of a mild expo setup to reach some backcountry camping spots.

Should I go with the FJ setup or hold out for OME 885/Superflex?

They're pretty close to stock performance. Maybe just a little more rebound. I installed the 5100's on mine and left them on the .85 settting. It was higher than stock but not a huge difference. Definitely the best bang for the buck.

To throw my 2 cents in, I did my install of the FJ springs and Bilstein 5100s @ 2 weeks ago. Donor was a 2007 FJ with a little less than 30K miles claimed when he pulled his springs out. ($50 on CL so I wont complain) I used the recommended .85 setting in the front and have to say it is almost perfect as far as rake. I went on vacation a couple of days after the install and have put on @1k miles since. Loaded down with a family of 4 + all sorts of gear, the ride was significantly improved and I was very happy with the feel. With just me in the truck, its slightly stiffer, but very acceptable. If you are on the fence about this, I would definitely say go for it!

Is there a quick way to identify FJ shocks and Springs? I'm looking at a pair someone is selling, but how do I verify.

Little Update:

Got a new set of FJ wheels wrapped in 285/70/17 Duratrac's
Sitting on 2014 FJ Bilstein's & Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacers.

Little Progress Shot

So far it's great.. I'm on STOCK UCA's... I will need some wheel spacers (going w/ 1.25) to clear the UCA's on full turn. The Duratrac's rub on full turn.

Hi guys I need a little help here. I've read that yellow/green is drive side and gray/green is passenger. However, what I have is orange/purple and gray/purple. To my knowledge, this is taken off of a 2013 base model.

The orange/purple seems to have less coils and they're spaced further/larger gaps. Whereas the gray/purple has more coils/smaller gaps.

Can someone please shed some light? Thanks!

haha same problem I ran into w/ my '14 setup. Just go Yellow/Purple drivers and Grey/Purple Passenger. Green just got replaced w/ purple on the newer ones.

Gluck! :)

So, in theory.. Will I be able to get close to 2-3" lift with the 5100 Bilsteins and FJ Springs? or will there be a need for different type/kind of springs to get to the 2-3"?
Figure I do something on the cheap for now and see how I like it.

(Based on what I read, seems like there is only a mild lift - less than 1", or the shocks are factory Bilsteins rather than 5100s retail)

Thanks

Looking for some pointers/feedback here. So I had someone install the following setup.

FJ Springs & shocks all around plus Daystar 2" front & 1.5" rear.

Now I'm hearing what appears to be a slight clunk from small rebounds when going over small bumps. Is this normal? One thing I know, the installer forgot to shave the stock bolts and just screwed on the extenders. Could the extender be hitting the strut mount?

Any help/insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2014 FJ Bilstein's w/ a day star 2/1.5 and got 3" on my lift. As far as "budget lift" goes, this def takes the cake. Everything cost me $225.00

I'm running the same setup and no clunks here. Is it at all speeds or doesn't matter. Maybe have someone check it out while going over to see any movement. Maybe one of the mounts good loose?

It is sure getting tough to find 07-09 FJ springs in the usual avenues. Can anyone point me to an online retailer that sells the correct setup? I was looking around RockAuto and it seems like there are so many spring choices!

If you're looking to raise the front a bit. Then you should look for the Tacoma's coil as they're equally the same spec and it shouldn't be hard to find. I have a spare but shipping is like in the $20ish area I believe. If i had to do it again i would skip the FJ rear coils as the lift you get for the price is not worth it. The money would be better spent on a daystar lift in the rear. As for the FJ/Tacoma for the front I beleive it is worth it because as it gives the front a bit stiffer spring rates reducing the nose dive when braking and not bottoming out on speed bumps. Good luck!:peace:

Did you buy your coild new or something? I picked up a used set for 80 bucks with a case of beer (coors). That cost less than spacers.

The rear FJ was $40 shipped used compared to a Daystar which would give you more lift @1 1/2 versus the FJ which is close to an inch maybe. So yea what I'm getting at is for about the same cost which is average for a pair of FJ coils you get more with the Daystar. Its just my opinion if you're trying to get the most out of it. $80 is about right for a complete FJ set. I paid $20 for the front Tacoma coils. Sure can use some Coors right now while work. LoL

yes.. if your looking at max height of lift spacers are cheaper. For me I like ride quality. Its why I got them. I read that they are a bit firmer. As for coors.. I just got back from wally world during my lunch 36pack for 21bucks. Thats a value.lol

I genuinely didn't feel a ride difference between the two. But to each their own. I'll have to stop by Wally world too!!!! Thirsty Thursday is what I call it. LoL

Its actually the same price as costco for coors light.

If it did not do anything for ride quality. Ill be ok with it being .5'' in lift. I dont wan tit too high of a lift anyway. I just shipped back my 2.5/1.5 dystar back to amazon.

UPS tracking said my dystar 1'' is delivered. So I should be able to complete the install this weekend.

Then I can relax and go back to my normal weekend routine.. Siding my soto in the canyons..:)
