Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I have the same springs as above. From a 2013 FJ ,The orange/purple seems to have less coils and they're spaced further/larger gaps. Whereas the gray/purple has more coils/smaller gaps.

Read and Re-Read all the shock coil posts , and Nobody just plainly states which side is the Orange/Purple , which is the Gray/Purple.

Don't confuse me with saying the Green has been replaced with the Purple.

As fas as I can tell there is no length difference on my shocks/coils.

So which is which ??????? Any definitive answer much appreciated. thanks

GRAY/PURPLE = DRIVER SIDE
ORANGE/ PURPLE = PASS SIDE
*** GRAY/PURPLE coils is appx. an inch longer when uncompressed.

fixed

Put the Gray/Purple on Drivers side , Orange/Purple on the passenger side. Truck is now level , ride is stiffer in front end , but exactly what I was looking for. Struts were from a 2013 FJ . Thanks to all here that posted helpful info.

Doesn't look like very many people run the 5100's at the top notch with FJ springs. It was a pain to get them compressed enough to assemble like this but I did it, now I'm considering going back and dropping them a notch.

2007 4x4 V8 5100's and FJ springs all around, I also have a 1.5 rear spacer and air bags to install at the same time.

Do I want the 2.5 or 1.75 notch?

I'm pretty sure with that combo you would have to replace the stock uca's because stock can't handle that much lift.

can't handle as in?

1.) Can't get proper alignment but will work
2.) Rub, can't run
3.) Can run them but will wear out the ball joints way faster

I found a member who is running this setup but has UCA's too.

#'s 1 and 3.
From what I understand it will put to much of an angle on your balljoints which will cause them to wear out extremely quickly and even possibly breaking. You will need the UCA's like the guy you posted about. You will probably need to do the front dif drop too, which is CHEAP!

Already have the diff drop, not too concerned about CV angles.

Looking into sway bar relocate as well now.

Maybe the ebay uniball UCA's or find some used light racings.

Thanks for the input.

No problem. Ditched my front sway bars. Useless things. lol I have custom links for them on the rear, keeps me under control. Good luck man!

I am looking at the same issue you have. As I understand it with the FJ springs, 5100s set at 2.5 on a V6 , you should expect 1" lift causing a net lift of 3.5" On a V8 expect 1/2" netting you 3". General thoughts are 3" is as tall as you want to go without running into UCA alignment issues and angles. I believe the risk is not worth the reward for going 3.5" without doing UCAs. I decided I am doing 1.75 setting on my V6 and get the 2.75 net. If you do the 2.5 setting let me know your results.

I've decided to leave them at 2.5 setting with FJ springs and see what it looks like all together. I just finished the frame paint last night so I should be able to get the front reassembled tonight. I have a few options the way I see it:

-Love the ride and height and have no issues
-Love the ride and height and have to get UCA's
-Ride too stiff, go back to 4runner springs
-Ride too high, drop it down a notch

I'll keep you guys posted and throw some pics up once it's all back together.

Even with the weight of the vehicle on this corner the UCA was tucking into the coils and ball joint angles were extreme with FJ coils and 5100's on the top notch.

I reminded myself of my original objectives for this build and being the tallest and damaging parts more often weren't on the list. I dropped it down one notch and felt much better about it. Lift height looks perfect at 1.75 setting.

Is that a V6 Blackoutt? To me that looks perfect and will likely be the exact same thing I do with mine when I get the front /rear 5100s. Looks good !

It's a V8. I didn't write down my initial measurements but I think I gained over 3" (twss) with this setup over my saggy old stock crap. 85k miles on rough roads.

Sorry if this has been answered.. I'm getting 5100's with fj coils installed on my V6. I currently have the daystar 2.5/1.5 lift. What is the best setting to run the front 5100s w/ daystar for a level ride. I also don't won't to swap UCAs yet. Any suggestions please? Thanks

On the front, I would use the third setting (1.75) and not use the Daystar spacer. This should net around 2.75" with the fj coils. On the rear, you'll want to keep the 1.5" spacer.

Curious why you suggest not using the spacer? Will it cause issue? Thanks for your input. Not questioning you just want to know

I would like a similar stance as Blackoutts t4r a few post up... Will I achieve that stance with removing the font DS spacer and just setting the 5100s at 1.75?

The 5100s are longer than oem shocks....adding the spacer pushes the shock down, so it can cause issues with over extension.

The setup I mentioned will put you very close to where you are now, maybe 1/2" higher at most.

Thats what I did. Check out my build thread, I even did a writeup on the install

Thanks for all the help from people on this thread. I'm very happy with my current set up. 5100s set 1.75 with fj coils all around and 1.5 d/s spacer on the rear. Ride is firmer with the billsteins but to me it's perfect.
