Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

That is correct, any 07+ FJ coils are a direct swap, no modification needed. 07-09 shocks are a direct swap. 2010+ shocks require modification in order to fit (grind down lower shock mount on the front, enlarge stem mount on the rear).

You got lucky, that's all I can say. The upper stem on the FJ rear shocks IS larger in diameter than the 4runner shocks. This has been discussed many times here on the forum. Here's a good write-up with pics showing the difference:

So the struts in that link are off a Trail Team FJC, mine are from a TRD FJC. Yes the stem is larger on the TRD's as well but if you follow my write up with the TRD struts it will work.

Now the fronts I have not done yet, hopefully start tomorrow. So we will see but thanks for the link I had not seen that write up yet.

You have a part number for the rear shocks? Just curious. For the upper stem to be different diameters, the frames would have to be different. I don't see that happening, so my assumption is all trim models are the same. Definitely curious to know more, because you're the only one I'm aware of who didn't have to enlarge the upper mounting hole.

Front Part#: PTR13-35100
Rear Part#: PTR13-35101

From what I saw the stems are different, true. However, at least with the TRD's, they are close enough to allow us to use the top bushing washer which is built into the frame.

Again if you have TRD's follow my write up and it will work.

Thanks for those....they are definitely the 2010+ shocks. My suggestion for anyone else considering his, be prepared to make modification, but you may get lucky and it'll fit. Also fyi, that upper washer is not part of the frame. They tend to seize up, but with some force it'll come off. Not that it really matters in this case, but it does on some aftermarket shocks.

i installed the FJC set up on my 08 sport. i also have a supreme suspensions spacer kit (2.5/1) that i was inclined to install as well. Has anyone had any issues with the control arms/cv, etc? should i just not push my luck?

From what I've gathered, once you push the 3" lift, you might start to have other issues regarding alignment, etc. So depending on the actual lift that you get from the FJ springs + 2.5" spacers, you may or may not have any problems. But based on the average front lift we're seeing with Fj springs alone, I think its fairly safe to say you'll be around 3" or more in the front.

FJ springs

I have just put FJ springs on my 2004 4Runner. I used FJ springs and Bilstein 5100. I got 3/4" rear lift and 1 1/2" front using stock setting on the 5100's. I have a 2004 SR5 4X4 V6. Just in case anyone wanted a second or 3rd measurement on the setup. 130K on the 4runner and 20K on the FJ springs. Hope this helps someone!

Are there any year rear springs that work better than other years, or don't work? I'm just going to buy some new factory Toyota springs, and I want to make sure that the 2014 springs will work fine.

I've spent a lot of time researching this topic on here, and it appears there is widespread confusion on what springs swap without issue. Judging by the wording in the original post (see below), it appears as if 2010+ FJ springs require a slight modification to fit.

So no rear springs and I wanted to just use the original front springs. I also wanted to have the 4runner level. I looked and could not find exactly what I wanted to do. I am sure it is buried in here somewhere but I couldn't find it..

I put the billy 5100's all around. I used the 1.75" (3rd ring) setting for the front spring perch. Original springs.

Before measurements:
Front 34
Rear 36 (in normal height mode)

After measurements
Front 36
Rear 36

Rides so much nicer now. I had no idea it would be this much better. Here is a pic from after:

Looks great! I just ordered 5100s to run on my stock springs, but I am still trying to figure out which setting I want to set them on. Either .85 or 1.75. You might have swayed me toward 1.75

Also, there are two versions of the 5100, one is adjustable one is not? That is why some people say their 5100 setting while others don't mention it?

The 5100's for the fronts are adjustable while the rears are not.

The 5th generation 4runner is heavier correct? Is there a reason why the rear springs from a TE would not offer the same lift advantage as the FJC springs?

I am also wondering this. My friend has springs from a 5th gen trail sitting around collecting dust.

I have stock springs, 1.5 rear spacer and I put front at 2.5. It's an inch lower in the front, if definitely do the same on your setup.
