Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

i have 5100s paired with new FJ TT coils and the ride is horrible. What else are people using? would even the bilstein 4600s or OME stuff be an improvement? Are there any pairing do not dos using the FJ TT coils? :wtf:

It's the Bilsteins. They suck. Sorry bro, I'm in same boat. Ome, procomp, or better fox, king, radflo, icon etc.

@jrm also to add to what t-man said ...not only do the bilsteins suk but so do the fj coils..you would be better off with Tacoma 4wd trd coils they are a progressive rate coil and the ride quality is much better like night and day, not stiff and jarring like fj coils.
So yeah I'm sorry we just shatted all over your front suspension but it's reality. And don't trip I still have bilsteins up front but ditched the fj coils awhile ago ...
So I'm shatting on myself as well..
Best option ...deal with it for awhile and beat them up .while you save your chips for better quality suspension....coilovers. Purchase once and done and enjoy your rig.

My bad for not extending this reference into my follow up posts b/c work got in the way. Anyway i do have the TRD/5100 set up up front and really like it. Im not sure if i "need" 5160s. icons and the like. Any info on pairing OME with new OE FJ TT REAR coils?

Okay so heres the deal.... I installed rear fj trail tem coil from an 08 theyre in great condition the guy i purchased from didnt know the mileage on the but they looked like they were taken oof early but when I swapped them on my 06 4runner sr5 the height stayed exactly the same. I got no lift at all? Whats the deal?

We're the ,FJ coils from a 4x4 or 2x4? The 2wd won't lift the 4Runner. I have springs from a 4wd FJ TT. I got about 1/2 inch in the back.

To anyone that had the xreas before the fj bilstein swap. What do you think? Would you recommend it to someone that has xreas or should I keep saving until I have enough for coil overs?

Pavement Princess, Bilsteins will be good. Offroad, you will want coilovers at some point, probably after you realize the Bilsteins can't keep up or that you have blown them out, twice, and you could have spent that money so much better!lol.

Looking For Quick Clarification

So, I was under the impression that alterations would need to be performed to fit 2010+ FJ springs on a 4th gen. But then I started reading things that seemed to imply that the springs would work, but it is actually the FJ shock that would need the modification in order to make them fit? Now i'm completely confused and skeptical of what i'v been reading.

I am about to try to fit a pair of 2013 FJ springs w/ 5100's on my 2006 4runner. Should I be expecting problems?

You are correct with your first statement. If just springs ONLY, you will be fine. I just put on 2012 fj TT springs on my 07 with no issues.

Just had 08 FJ springs and new Bilstein 5100's put on my 08 4R and the ride is awesome compared to stock. Just enough to dial it in for typical city and freeway driving. Love how it came out. Onto the next projects... New nav unit and rear window remote close mod. good times...

I finished the lift on my T4R this week. It was a work in progress until I was able to get the lift I wanted (and looked good).

Moog FJ springs (F & R)
Bilstein 5100s; front set to 2.5" lift, Daystar 1-1/2" spacer in the back.
Michelin 265/70/17 LTX AT2 tires

Eventually, I'm going to also add the 1-1/2" Spidertrax wheel spacers.

Sounds like to make it level (or close to), I wouldn't need the rear Daystar Spacer, correct?

I had to source the springs from two different vendors.

I can't say which is better for the V8. I think they had options V6/V8.

As to the leveling, it depends on what part of the 4R you use for your measurements. I used the running boards. Setting the front shocks at 1.75, the difference in the front of the running board to back was 2". After I raised the front shocks to 2.5, the running board difference front/back is 3/4". Removing the 1.5" rear spacer may result in a brah lift.

When I got the steep rear lift, I had the choice of lowering the back 1.5" (removing the spacer) or raising the front 3/4" (to 2.5). I threw the dice and raised the front resulting in the 1.25" front leveling by my measurements. :lever:

For the OME, I was told they sell a driver side spacer to get rid of the lean. Maybe that would correct the front.

Are people still having fit issues with the Moog FJ coils on the rears? I have a '04 4wd with the V8 and want to replace the coils and shocks. I have the 5100's on order and was looking into the Moog FJ springs also. From what I have read the fronts fit no problem its the rears that have the issues. If there are issues with the bottom of the coil fitting do different year Moog coils fit any better - say 2010+ vs 2007+?

folks have been removing a 1/2' of material from the tail of the coil so that it sits flat on the rear spring platform.

I was going to go with rear moog fj coils but I decided to spend the extra $150 and go with icons or superflexes for the rear. Looking to get 2.85" in the front and 2" in the back with bilstein at 1.75" , front moog fj coils, and rear 2" coils. Any problems with rear diff. Like this ?
