Conversion - Trail Parts Question

Ok some hail damage this week I’m looking at getting a few trail parts to replace my SR5 parts when I do the repairs. I’m at work and had to snag a pic so I used cbielat awesome rig pic.

My end goal is to run the Trail rocker panels. I have numbered the parts on the picture to make it easier to know what I’m talking about. I know I’ll need to replace Parts #1 & #2 with trail parts and that’s not the problem Okki has done this. I know part #3 doesn’t match up well with part #2 because the SR5 is cut a bit different on the bottom.

So here is my question if I replace Part #3 with a trail fender flare for the door will it match up with part #4 at the seam? Are they the same thickness and height at the door seam where they mate together?

So I’ll be calling on harper7 Okki phillyd2 or anyone else who has done a TE swap for your guidance before I order parts.

I'm pretty sure all the TE flares are about a 1/4 - 1/2" shorter then the LE/SR5 ones. So part 4 and 3 might not line up perfectly. I have the old flares still in my garage though so I can check for you this afternoon.

thebwlife Since I didn't touch the rear end of the truck, you may want to focus your questions on guys who did the full conversion. DannyLlama completed his conversion recently, so he may have the freshest memory.

I did not feel the need to change the rear door molding since it cuts nice and straight at the bottom and there is a rubber seal there that keep dirt out.

Please do that would be helpful!

Okki

Thanks - I'd like to do it if it matches up - if not it saves me money and I'll not sweat it.

Actually here this might help a bit. This is the reverse of what you are looking to do, but still shows the difference a bit.

This picture from my build: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/116234-jangoforhires-build-pictures-13.html#post1253167
Shows the one TE flare and the bumper installed right against the LE top flare. It's not the best picture but you can see (if you zoom in) that the LE flare is a little taller than the TE flare. I'll try to get a better picture though.

EDIT: Here's the actual picture instead of the permalink:

Hey that's perfect! That's why I asked! Guess I'll do the conversion like Okki did. Hey thanks again!

No problem. I'm doing some work on the truck today so here's one more just to drive the point home. It looks a little off because I have to hold it in front but they are level on the bottom, and you can see the LTD flare is taller.

Quick question, can't you remove the LTD ones sandblast them and plastidip them instead ?

In theory, sure you could. But most people do the TE conversion for the better ground clearance, improved approach/departure angle, and the TE look (which is a bit more streamlined in my opinion). If you just wanted the black trim you absolutely could go this route though. I think someone did it with vinyl a while back...

If your goal is to just run Trail Rocker panels, you might consider Antman's mod first. This might save you some cash, and if you screw up can then buy the Trails, just a thought.

No cutting them for me 1) doesn't do what I want. 2) looks like a cut body piece. 3) happy wife = I get to keep doing mods

I need that rocker more flush to the body so the sliders I get act more like a step.

No worries. I figured that it might be worth a try, for extra $ for more mods, but keeping the wifo happy for more modding is equally important.
