Coolant Resevoir Empty!

First off, you are not supposed to 'top over' your coolant reservoir. The second thing is you should always check your coolant when the engine is cold. So, although you probably don't have a problem (the excess coolant is just getting expelled through the waste tube when the engine is hot), you might as well start doing it right. Check the coolant after the truck has been sitting all night, and fill it to the max line on the reservoir. The mark is below halfway down to allow for expansion--look for it. If it's hard to see, clean off the bottle and highlight with a permanent marker. Then keep checking to see if the level--when cold--is between the MAX and MIN marks. If you need to keep adding fluid to keep above the MIN mark, then you have a problem.

It's very easy to lose coolant and never see a puddle under the parked truck. The system is pressurized and some leaks will only occur while the engine is hot and running--which usually means in motion and away from its parking place.

Thanks! I should've mentioned I check it in the mornings. That way I know what's being fully recovered in the reservoir tank. I also should've mentioned I didn't top it off. It was topped off when I had the oil change done. It's has been staying about an inch below the full line for sometime now.

By the by, I have my oil changed at the dealership. And I checked the oil level the next morning. It was over a quart too much! I was so pissed. Had to bring it back and have them drain it until it was the right amount.

Chit! I thought all was well with this, but just went out after lunch to find a puddle of coolant. Seems to be dripping from the passenger side in front of the wheel area. Any thoughts? Hoping to get it filled and limped home to go through it or drop it at the shop. Sigh...

Nevermind...I think it may be my rear heater lines. I believe someone did a writeup on this. Will put a bucket under her and try to tackle it next week...
