My wife loves our 2010 SR5, 30,000 miles!! She would like us to get a new one except for the cupholders. The cupholders for petes sake. She has to take her coffee in regular ceramic cups with handles. They will not fit in the console without tipping and spilling. So if I don't find a fix we will end up with a Ford Explorer:sick: Am I the only one with this problem?

Probably.

The cup holders have inserts. One holds a smaller cup, take it out and it holds a big cup.

Buy your wife an Explorer. It's probably a better fit for people such as yourselves.

And buy her a thermos cup. Nobody drives with a normal coffee cup unless you couldn't care less about your vehicle and spills everywhere.

Cup Holder

Cup Holder It may be difficult to reach the handle, get her a fancy insulated travel mug with no handle.

You are contemplating on ditching a vehicle over cupholders? Cupholders are probably the last thing I look at in a car. I don't even think I look at them at all. Hell, my BMW doesn't even HAVE them.

Yes she would go for the car with the better cupholders. (women) With the insert the cup has zero stability, without it it drops way down and tilts. All of
our many coffee cups are 3.5" dia. She only drives 15 minutes to a park and ride, but it's sip sip sip all the way. I just stared at it for a while and had a brilliant idea. A 1" high disk of sponge would be perfect, might be a little sloppy on the sides, but I'm halfway there.

She has to take her coffee in regular ceramic cups with handles.

Pretty much *speechless*

If she is so particular, why doesn't she insist that she has to have her coffee "flat white", sitting down, in a corner cafe, in milan?

T4R cup holder question... can't help but think Antman

Challenging Antman with a problem, I bet he can come up with the next legendary "ceramic coffee cup" mod....

Rare earth magnet embedded at the bottom of a ceramic cup with a lid, and a mating piece that get captured with our OEM cup holder, the ceramic cup can just sit "on top" of that mating piece and not going anywhere.....

OR, just this (ceramic cup with a handle):

My BMW do have cup holders, but my model 996 Carrera certainly don't.

How F'N bored are we that we are even entertaining this "problem"? lol

"Accidentally" break the offending cup. Problem solved.

I agree with all your replies and rants!
If she is so particular, why doesn't she insist that she has to have her coffee "flat white", sitting down, in a corner cafe, in milan? We did that, it was great.
I don't know anything about this "antman" but I'll see what happens. Her point is that why do I have to ditch 3 dozen perfectly good cups when Ford has
solved the problem years ago.

Antman, I was typing while you posted. Looks like I'd be wasting even more
time asking you about this. I just thought that someone with a creative mind or had run into this situation before would have an idea.

Being a veteran and having seen and dealt/dealing with actual problems this is where I just keep my mouth shut and politely shake my head. Best of luck.

Jicko and Spencer, thanks for civil commentary. I really understand your comments. I try not to be a red necked sexist, but trying to explain anything to a woman who refuses to see any reason for drag racing, manual transmissions, dual exhausts, or differential steering is so challenging. I may have just solved the whole problem. I made a sponge disc with a hole the size of a coke can in the center. I really thought someone may have run into this before, but the human race seems to have advanced............

Tell her if she wants a crossover that badly that fits her cups she can pay for it with her own money, while you will be getting a proper SUV that perhaps does not double as a mobile cafe; but easily makes up for such a small if not insignificant quibble.

Find a techie with a 3D printer. Spec the dimensions of the cup and the 4RUNNER cup holder. Create your masterpiece in the color of her choosing.
