Find a techie with a 3D printer. Spec the dimensions of the cup and the 4RUNNER cup holder. Create your masterpiece in the color of her choosing.

this is actually a really simple and easy solution...but not as easy as a $1 starbucks reusable coffee cup with a lid

TECHIE ROUTE:

Find a techie with a 3D printer. Spec the dimensions of the cup and the 4RUNNER cup holder. Create your masterpiece in the color of her choosing.

This would be a fun project.

Actually you can probably do this with the free Google Sketchup and then have someone on the internet to 3D print it for you. You can even put her favorite design or her birthday or your anniversary etc... on it....

ARTIST ROUTE:

Use this product, make a sculpture - upper part mold to the "cup", with cup handle exposed; lower part fit to the 4Runner cup holder. Let this cure, you will have your "custom" cup holder.... :pray2:

While you are at it, mount a Nespresso machine back in the cargo area, plug it into the 120V outlet.

DaleFiorillo; All of our many coffee cups are 3.5" dia. She only drives 15 minutes to a park and ride said:
If she's sipping all the way there what the heck does she need a cup holder for?
For me I'd just make a rule, no drinking coffee in the new truck since you cant do it without spilling it. Let her figure it out:thumb3:or get a dog and be done with it.

I know why she wants a new vehicle ... the 'old' one has coffee stains all over the carpets, the drivers seat, and all down inside the center console..... and the shifter lever barely moves from dried-up sugar.

I agree with all your replies and rants!
If she is so particular, why doesn't she insist that she has to have her coffee "flat white", sitting down, in a corner cafe, in milan? We did that, it was great.
I don't know anything about this "antman" but I'll see what happens. Her point is that why do I have to ditch 3 dozen perfectly good cups when Ford has
solved the problem years ago.

The ONE day I couldn't find a clean travel mug I grabbed a ceramic cup. Heading down the road sipping my coffee and BAM. Get rear ended and me and my truck are wearing hot coffee. Swore I'd never drive without a travel mug with lid that I could put in the holder again.

Antman, I was typing while you posted. Looks like I'd be wasting even more
time asking you about this. I just thought that someone with a creative mind or had run into this situation before would have an idea.

Here is the creative mind, tell her to deal with it.

Look man, no offense but if my wife was complaining about switching a car because of a dozen cup that cost a few bucks, I would do one of two things. 1. Let her have her way because I don't want to hear the nag or because unfortunately she wears the pants or 2. Tell her to stop complaining because she will find something to complain about in the ford anyways.

I love my wife and I do everything possible to make her happy, but if she gets irrational with me I just have to brush her off. If your wife holds the bigger paycheck, then let her do what makes her happy and just go for the ride.

Jicko and Spencer, thanks for civil commentary. I really understand your comments. I try not to be a red necked sexist, but trying to explain anything to a woman who refuses to see any reason for drag racing, manual transmissions, dual exhausts, or differential steering is so challenging. I may have just solved the whole problem. I made a sponge disc with a hole the size of a coke can in the center. I really thought someone may have run into this before, but the human race seems to have advanced............

Show us a picture of your setup, its not a bad idea. The only concern I have in my mind is if the cup may now be too high and may spill on turns.

I don't think any comments were uncivil.

Your wife griping that the cup holder does not facilitate an open, ceramic coffee cup is like somebody saying I am trading in my vehicle because when I put my dogs water dish in the back and drive, it spills water all over.

Makes no sense.

Save yourself man, kick her crazy butt to the curb, get the 4Runner detailed and join an internet dating site and start over. That chick is whacked.

That's funny, I guess you learn from mistakes and next time you go to a dealership with your wife's cup and try to fit the cup in cupholder before buying a vehicle : )
On a positive note check out google, there are few simple solutions out there - just a couple I found in 2 minutes:

Car Coffee Cup Holder - Buy Car Coffee Cup Holder,Car Coffee Cup Holder Product on Alibaba.com

Car Coffee Cup Holder - Buy Car Coffee Cup Holder,Car Holder,Mobile Holder Product on Alibaba.com

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=a9_sc_1?rh=i:aps,k:cup+holder&keywords=cup+holder&ie=UTF8&qid=1428854531

Might require some fitting, but hopefully saves your trouble buying a new truck : )

Aahaa. Scanny your last link was terrific, it had good ideas and products. I did not search amazon, only google, and only found tacky window hangers. I sorta solved the problem last night after sitting in the car for a few hours. I cut a plastic peanut butter jar in half, that gave me the height. Then I cut a wide vertical slot for the cup handle. When the cup goes down its handle hits the console and tips, so I need to create a little shelf for the interior of the jar.
When I'm done I will post a picture with the smiling wife and her cup holder. AND I will
damn sure test the 2015 Limited holders first.
She complained about the seatbelt chime til I started driving right up on the closest sidewalk til she fastened it, so I do have at least one nut left.
