Dash Cluster Fixes

Hey all,

I need a couple of dash cluster fixes that I would like to take care of. I am in Los Angeles so I am hoping for a couple of forum members to point me towards a shop to help me fix the below. Hopefully at a reasonable price!

1. clock is dead, need that fix
2. AC works great but doesn't shut off. maybe something with the pentameter? Not sure would like that fixed to help prolong the life so i can turn off the unit!
3. fuel gauge shows empty at all times. I run it off miles currently. would like that fixed also.

1. The clock is super easy to do if you want to spend some time with it. I did what the other member did in the thread bellow, however my clock failed after a month or so of bumpy LA and OC roads. I ended up buying a 4 Pin Harness for cars off of Amazon and soldering wires directly to the PCB. It was a lot easier than trying to mess with soldering the clips in the right orientation. 2. Depends on the year, if it is 1999 or older if I remember right, it is mechanical rods to control the AC and they can get loose over time. 2000 and newer, I believe they used a digital style Climate Control System that I know nothing about.

3. You would have to drop the fuel tank to fix the gas gauge, and it would be a good time to replace the fuel filter as well.

Clock not working is the pins that connect to it. Search on the forums here for a few ideas for fixing it.

The AC always runs with either defrost setting, even if the AC button isn't pressed (and doesn't light the light).

You'll have to track down whether you have an issue with the sender or the cluster.

I am probably going to go the soldering route in a weekend or so here. I’ll search the forum for that.

I have the digital AC unit. Can you confirm it is always on? If so then we should be fine. I just didn’t know that! I did just purchase this 99

So I had to replace the fuel pump right when I bought it (lol). The gauge was not working prior to that. The mechanic said they put in a new float sending unit. That didn’t solve the problem. I recently filled up to full and the garage dropped to fully empty with the icon flashing on the dash. 50 miles in (I run it off miles currently) it seems to have started working properly again. The intermittent issues lead me to believe it is some thing electronic with the cluster. Any thoughts?!

I just learned there was a Toyota TSB (technical service bulletin) about this but I can’t find any info on that. Any links would be helpful so I can search my vin and find what needs to be replaced in that TSB.

dope thank you. Seems like I will have to perform procedure 1 & 2 to get that fixed. Really good to know. Not a huge deal rn, I just run it off miles but will get that sorted down the road for sure. Thank you thread!

I sent my clock to someone I found on eBay that fixed it and shipped it back. I think it was about $15. Was totally dead and works like new now.
